Sipdroid and phone calls on edge
For those of you using the sipdroid setup to make calls, or wanting to try. I set mine up with a Sipgate number since Gizmo is gone. http://www.sipgate.com/
Incoming calls are free. You can set GoogleVoice to use the Spgate number as a call back number, effectively making outgoing calls free as well. |

I don't suppose you could give a walk-through of the setup?

OK, its pretty simple. Install Sipdroid http://sipdroid.org/
Got to Sipgate and sign up http://www.sipgate.com/ you get 60 minutes free for outgoing or forwarding, initially forward to a cell or home # so you can set up your number in Google Voice. Go to Google Voice and add your Sipgate # as a forwarding number in phones. After Google authorizes it you can remove the forward from Sipgate. Go to settings on your Sipgate page, your info there goes in Sipdroid. Open Sipdroid, click menu - settings and fill in the first 3 lines. Authorization username is your Sip ID, Password is your sip password and server or proxy is sipgate.com Now you should see a green dot in your notification bar - you are connected. Open Sipdroid, call your Google Voice number from a phone and your edge will ring. Slide up to answer. Sometimes the call is a little crackly, headphones help for sure. |

Just an FYI, sipgate only gives out US phone numbers and they appear to require a US cell phone number to sign up. For most of you, a non-issue.

Another option - http://www.ipkall.com/ free number
free sip plus softphone - http://ekiga.org/ ipkall is a us number, but it doesn't matter your Google voice number is the number that will be the one you are using to receive and make calls. |

All good advice. Anyone trying this stuff should also have a look at the Google Voice thread in the apps section. A set-up that works on my PE is: Google voice + IPComms# + CSipSimple. I explain it in the other thread if'n'yer intersted.
