Pocketbook range of products? Lux 3?

Never owned an e reader. Looking to buy one for commuting purposes.

Trying to understand the differences between the different models and price points.

The Touch Lux 3 seems to handle most formats and compared to the Kobo Aura you can actually borrow books directly from libraries?

The Lux 3 is from 2015 but I guess the ink technology hasn't taken huge leap since then? I just don't wanna buy a inferior "screen".

The Touch Lux HD is newer, has a better screen and somewhat more advanced firmware, but is also more expensive.

Where are you? If possible, try to find a shop where you can compare the screens to see if you are happy enough with the resolution of the Touch Lux 3 or rather spend the extra money on the HD.

I have no experience with borrowing directly from libraries so cannot advse you on that question.

Borrowing directly from libraries depends on the library you borrow from. In Germany it is possible. Books in actual Kindle format are not supported but protected epub and pdf format is supported and a variety of unprotected file formats too (even mobi).

The PocketBook Touch Lux 3 is described in our wiki along with other PocketBook products. It uses the newest Carta screen but not the highest resolution currently available. Whether that is important to you is for you to decide.

I have a weird question .

How long should I expect an e-reader to last?
I wouldn't mind spending the extra 200-300 SEK (around 30 USD) if it lasts 3-4 years.

Any big differences between Kobo Aura One and Pocketbook Touch HD?

3-4 years should not be a problem if you handle it with some care. I bought my first PocketBook reader 5 years ago. My wife is still using it and it is still in perfect condition. Before that, my wife and I used Onyx readers. These moved to other family members, and are still working. Both are around 7 years old.

Biggest difference between Kobo Aura One and Pocketbook Touch HD is the screen size: 7.8" vs. 6". That makes the screen of the Aura One almost 70% bigger.

Huge differences!
The Kobo Aura One has ComfortLight which reduces blue light. The library management is completely different, as it does not show folders as the Pocketbook devices do. You cannot use a micro SD card, either, with the Kobo. The Pocketbook Touch HD has audio and you can play MP3s. The Kobo has Pocket integration, the Touch HD has a mail-to feature and Dropbox integration.
Reading PDFs is much easier on the Pocketbook (crop margins, zoom, reflow).

The pocketbook also has Text to Speech. The Kobo supports ePub 3 while the pocketbook does not.

Well it is not the diagonal size that makes the difference it is the area of the screen. The area of a 6" screen is 16.9 sq in while a 7.8" screen is 29.2 sq in. You can get a lot more text on such as screen. To compare screen sizes check our wiki.

You are right, my fault.
But owning Ereaders with 4.3, 6 and 8" screen for me this visual difference doesn't feel that big, especially if compared to the uncomfortable weight.
