Question Book Error - Can't close book?

Hi all,

I've got a book on my Vox that I can't close. I read all the way to the last page and bookmarked it there (had to put Kobo down for a minute). When I went back to open it (so I could close it) I got an error message that says:

"BOOK ERROR: This book cannot be opened due to an error. Please try again later."

I've tried several times to 'try again later', both connected to wifi and not, both before the most recent update and since, but no joy. Not sure what to do here. In the big picture, it's not that big a deal, but it sort of bugs me that I can't be finished with this book, as it were. I suppose I could just delete the book (it wasn't a spectacular read or anything, so no loss there), but I'd prefer to keep it if possible.

Anyone have any ideas?

Cheers!
L.

I should mention that I have just today finished and closed another book without difficulty, so I suspect it's just this one anomalous book.

if it's a paid book (not a kobo freebie) and you want it on the Vox showing as read, sounds long winded, but it's quite straight forward

Delete the book from your Vox
Log onto kobo website, go into library and deleted, then tick this book and press undelete
go back into library on your Vox and it will download
open book and go to end and try closing again

will show as unread in library, but kobo should remember you have already been reading it (won't count it twice in books read)

taming, by the Kobo desktop, do you mean the the kobo app on my desktop computer? Because I don't actually use that. I just use the wifi connection with my Vox and download that way. Please bear in mind I have very basic computer knowledge, so my question might sound really stupid.

Ok this didn't appear to work. I deleted the book from my Vox, but when I logged into the website it was still in the "I'm Reading" section. So I deleted from there and then undeleted it. Now it's only in my "purchased" section and is not downloading back to the Vox. I think I did something wrong... however, the book is no longer on my Vox and I don't have to look at that bookmark that kept bugging me, so silver lining?

Thoughts? Other than I'm kinda thick?

Thats sounds ok

search for the book again in the kobo store, from the results page click the little 'i' symbol and select 'get a preview'

as the book is in your purchased section it should recognise you have bought the book previously and download the full version

Ok I emailed Kobo for help and this is what they sent:

Thank you for contacting Kobo Customer Care. To have the ebooks loaded properly again you can remove and readd ebooks from our web site.

1. Log into the www.kobobooks.com web site (from a computer) with your account and click My Library in the top right corner.

2. Checkmark next to all of the ebooks that are missing and select Delete.

3. Sync the reader so the books are `removed` from the reader.

4. Select the Trash back on the web site, checkmark all of the ebooks again and select Undelete.

5. Sync the reader again to restore the books.

Please don`t hesitate to contact us if you have any other questions or concerns. If it is regarding this issue please refer to this incident ticket number.

Sincerely,
The Kobo Team

I messed around with it a bit and finally got it to work. I think I didn't sync it properly when I tried the first time. Also of note, the book has to be in the I'm Reading section of My Library on the website when you initially delete it. I was doing it from the Purchased section which didn't work.

Tip: to copy book into I'm Reading from Purchased, select the book in Purchased and hit Bookmark. It asks you where to bookmark (i.e., what page). Just hit yes to bookmark at page 1, then presto book is back in I'm Reading.

The downside: I had to page all the way through to get close it and get the credit for Reading Life. I'm such a dork.

Cheers for the help!
