Nook Windows 8 app now available internationally

I don't know about the hardware Nook's, but B&N has launched their Windows 8 app in 32 countries and 21 languages. Might be of interest to some.

Now if they would let Canadians buy from their website...and maybe make their Nook app available at the Canadian Apple App Store...maybe that's coming, too.

Wait does that mean they will now sell ebooks to me?? Previously I have had a US address in my account and had to fire up the VPN in order to buy their books.
If so that's big news totally going to install it and have a look when I get home. With these type of apps do they store the books in the cloud or do all the ones in your account auto download to your machine(space tight at the mo)

Very interesting indeed. And good to see, better late than never. I couldn't believe they took so long to get international. Perhaps B&N has finally got a clue and is on the upswing. They did release a new e-ink reader as well (improved resolution and light).

By the way, if it is anything like the other apps, it will connect to your account and download ebooks on a "as needed" basis. Even their ereaders won't download "everything" at once. They will download new books you just purchased, but not if you register a device. All the books bought previously won't download until you manually ask for them. Last I knew, their phone apps worked this way by default due to space considerations, and I suspect this app is the same way.

It looks like that they are not yet selling outside US.
I got a "problem" with my credit card. Usual message for not being able to sell me a book.

"We are sorry, but your order did not pass our order verification process and we are unable to continue to fulfill your order. We assure you that you were not charged for any portion of this order."

Oh well, their prices are higher, in general. Let us wait and see

I notice New Zealand is missing from their list. Presumably, like the Sony and Tom Tom twonks, Nook will insult us by calling us Australian. My address even shows up in my Tom Tom registration as xxxx Street, xxxx Town, Australia!

The Isle of Man is a (semi) independent country - is the island where you live? It's its political status which gets the IOM the separate site, not its size.

So how does that explain the omission of New Zealand, Harry? We have a population of over 4 million, and we are a more independent sovereign state than the Isle of Man - heck, we even refuse to allow the USA or any other country to send their nuclear weapons and ships into our territorial waters.

I don't think your argument has validity - there must be other reasons for ignoring certain nation states.

Certainly there are plenty of other possible reasons why they aren't there as a business entity. It doesn't always mean a country or nation state is being "ignored". Merely expanding domestically can be costly and complicated - I can only imagine doing so internationally is exponentially more so, especially when you consider that ebook "inventory" has to change for each geographic territory, requiring new relationships with entirely different publishers.

It's also possible that, as you previously mentioned, NZ might be included in the Australian territory. IF publishing territories are the same and IF business regulation permits it (I honestly don't know, but since others combine the two it seems to be the case) then it only makes good business sense to treat it as one territory to reduce overhead.
