There are 206 national entities. |

Highest ranking gain Paraguay +15 (actual 16th) Highest points gain Uruguay + 253 (actual ranking 6th: +10 ranking) Highest ranking loss France -12 (actual 21st) Hightest points loss Italy -202 (actual ranking 11th: -6 ranking) For me Uruguay is the very welcome surprise. Italy a dire reality. |

Why is England one place above Portugal? I understand why Portugal dropped from the 3rd place... But both teams lost in the same WV round (although Portugal had a goal average of +6, unlike England), so how dod England surpassed Portugal in the ranking?

It's the points gained in all competitions preceding the Cup.

The UK has too much influence over the governance of football; it's about time the International Football Association Board was scrapped.
"The Board meets twice a year, once to decide on possible changes to the rules governing the game of Football and once to deliberate on its internal affairs.... In 1958, the Board agreed on its current voting system, with each UK association having one vote, FIFA four and six votes being required to carry any motion." [The 4 UK associations are those of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.] |

Let's face it, the chief of FIFA is Sepp Blatter, the chief of UEFA is Michel Platini. Both of them hate England with a passion; no undue English influence there! |
