As someone who is paranoid about protecting my paid for content, I was very happy to discover a new tool, AAXAudioConverter, which works with files downloaded with the current Audible WIN10 App, rather than through AudibleManager.

Much slicker than AAXtoMP3 was

As of today their web page allows downloads directly to aax . If you have inaudible 1.97 installed, a double click will kick off conversion to M4B.

I lost a number of Audible titles when we changed computers in 2017. I found a program called TunesKit to convert aax to mp3 and have used it since then to back up my audiobooks.

Once Audible disabled their manager, I was able to download the audio and then retrieve through Tuneskit. I then used up my credits because I was considering canceling my account.

I made the decision to leave Audible since it seems Audible wants everyone to stream or use their phones to listen and I like the mp3 format and still use portable players for them. I also disliked their so called "enhanced" format that increased the size of the audio download which hampers my ability to use said mp3 players. I switched to Libro.fm in March, they have no DRM on the mp3 copies and a portion of your purchase goes to support a local bookstore in the process.
