Well, he met the animal years ago, but didn't say when he released it; there actually are animal morgues and dolphins do have stomachs (with 3 compartments), so the only thing I can figure is that he forgot to turn on his microphone.

What Tom said. Or maybe there could be a question as to how he could identify a dolphin washed up on the beach as his particular friend?

What's the life expectancy of a dolphin? Is it possible that he couldn't have met it many years ago because they don't live that long?

Because you can't see both of a dolphin's eyes from one angle? Clued by, "I personally could not see past it"?

Animals don't die because their stomachs are empty. They can die when their body is depleted of fat and other reserves. This usually happens days/weeks after they last feed. More likely, the poor dolphin died due to lack of water (liquid).

That's the reason given. It's impossible for dolphins to die of starvation. Since they live so far from freshwater and they cannot drink saltwater, they naturally get all their water from the fats in their food. Therefore, a dolphin will always die of dehydration before it dies of hunger.

Makes sense to me. I have a question about a quote I found in a mystery novel.
"I'm no gentleman. I'm a detective." What famous fictional detective said this line? It was a response to a hotel clerk who got a little persnickety. Thus, you can rule out Sherlock Holmes and Hercule Poirot for starters. If you think this is a pushy American character, then you are on the right track. |

Good first pair of guesses. The detective is heir to the Sam Spade & Philip Marlowe tradition.

Good try, but my detective appears in the literature two decades before Spenser.
