Want to get a mobile reader...
My wife and I want to get some sort of e reader to use when we are RV'ing. But we are boggled by the selection and can't make up our minds. Kindle, sony's ereader or maybe a iPod or something that we don't know about!!
We don't want to spend a lot downloading bestsellers but want a selection of books. The iPod can do more than just books but has a small screen for reading. ~Jim |

just my opinion, but I wouldn't use the ipod....screen way too small. Remember........there are thousands of ebooks available at no charge....public domain, true, but also by independent authors, and you are sure to find a great selection in your favorite genres. The Sony gets great raves for the ease of downloading library ebooks...depending on where you live, many libraries are stocking more and more in their selection. If the one closest to you doesn't have a good selection, there are lots out there that do.......some you have to pay for, some are free. check out our wiki for more info. The Kindle has the best price on books, and, I think, the best selection and whispernet, depending on where you live. You have a 30 day no questions asked return policy, only pay shipping back. You are right about one thing.....its a lot more confusing than when I bought mine a year ago. Good luck and enjoy the forums. |

I think desertgrandma did a great job summarizing the most important points to the Kindle and Sony in just a few sentences!
If you are into library books, check out this link and search for the types of books you want, or your local library to see if it has ebooks http://search.overdrive.com/ If you find there are a lot, and this is a good option for you, you might want to check out a sony in a little more detail. Amazon has new releases for less expensive for Kindle is you prefer to buy *some* books. check out the "which one should I buy" forum and read the posts there to help you get a good start on which ereader might be best for you! And Welcome! |

Hi Jim and welcome to MobileRead. I've had a Sony 505 for over a yera and a half and really like it. Truth is though, I think you'd be equally happy with a Kindle.
