I'm like DrNefario, I enjoyed the series and it was a favorite. One of the books, I think it was the 2nd, was very slow for at least a third or half of the book but then it finally picked up and I was glad I stuck with it.

Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell was another well thought of book that didn't do much for me. I read the Earthsea series years ago and liked it.

I highly do not recommend anything by Le Guin. I find her books to be awful.

A Montessori class? In what way? Is it hands-on, partially self-directed, full of beauty & order and providing no material that does not support the child's development?

Or is it just the fact that most Montessori classes are for ages six and under?

It's still useful, once you get to know him - I find that I can usually take his anti-recs as recs, for me.

That's true.

I just know that wherever/whenever Le Guin is mentioned, Jon is sure to come a' bashin'.

In the sense that the magic on the Isle of Roke is a lot deeper are more dangerous and integral to the world than the magic at Hogwarts, in my opinion. I enjoy Harry Potter but Earthsea feels more loke "real" magic to me, I know that probably doesn't make sense. Plus, Gebbeth.

How was it rude stating his personal opinion about an author's books?

I thought the Left Hand of Darkness was brilliant, but I found the tone of the Wizard of Earthsea distant and cold.

I read some long ago when I was in my teens or 20s. No ideas which ones, but I do remember some of them being very good.

I found The Left Hand of Darkness to be a slog for the first half or so...

That's all I have to say about Le Guin

The flip side is that I really liked the Earthsea series, but never got very far into the Left Hand of Darkness. Different strokes and all of that.
