Calibre://URL and the Content Server

Dear Kovid,

First of all, thank you for your response and implementation in the plugin section. I would like to start a new thread for it where I don't disturb others.

I have updated Calibre to the latest version today (7.24), and try the calibre:// (for the first time).

Code:

calibre://show-book/Library_Name/book_id

1) It works in the Main Calibre but not functioning in the Content Server. I notice that the the URL shown in the status bar of Microsoft Edge when I hover the mouse on the link still shows calibre://. I think it should be converted to https or whatever the domain is???

2) Is it possible to make the Library_Name optional? I mean without it the "current" library name should apply. The reason is that I don't know what would happen when I "rename" the Library Name for whatever reason.

1) works for me. Remember you need to be in the details view that is not in the listing of books but in the actual page for the book, only there are the links translated.

2) Use the Library name _ to mean current library. Although IIRC I havent added support for that to the content server, will do so for next release.

Also, how did you create the link? The best way to do that is right click in the book details panel for the book you want to link to and choose copy link to book.

1) I manually edit the Comments box. This works just fine in the Main Calibre

Open a bug report then and attach the metadata.db from the library where it is happening.

Oh. It seems it doesn't work on Microsoft Edge but ok on Chrome. I have no issue so far on Android where I use the Content Server the most. So, I think I am happy with it now. Looking forward to the next released with "current Library" support.

Yeah I guess its router works with _ already no need to special case it.

Last time I tried not even Onenote links worked on Edge

Edge was great when it had its own layout engine, its ePUB viewer was my favourite, but then M$ Blinked. That said, I do use it as my calibre browser via the openers_by_scheme Tweak.

Here, the Content Server will tell me that I have no permission to modify the library _, if I attempt to edit the metadata. The cover page doesn't show up here either.

I manually remove the "&library_id=_" to make it editable. Small hiccup only.

When you have time, would you support other syntaxes as well, including view-book, search and book-details?

view-book is already supported. and show-book takes you to the details page anyway. As for search, dont really see the point, what's the use case?

Oh, it is quite useful. Just say you have a boxset of books (not series), or translated books of the same title. If you use show-book, it would need many links for a all related books. With search, you can simply and a common query. Very useful.

Using book-id is good, but if the book is deleted (then added) the link will be broken, because the id is changed.
