Purchased eBook [Cannot remove DRM]

Hello experts! I'm trying to remove a DRM from a book I purchased on Amazon. I have done the following:

Download and install Calibre version 3.22.1

Download and install Kindle for PC version 1.17.0

Download and install the DeDRM Tools 6.6.1

Download and install the KFX Input.zip

After I input the .azw4 file into calibre and press convert to PDF I receive an error as follows:

Please help resolve this problem.

P.S. This is a purchased book, not a rental. I have also tried the 64-bit version of calibre and saw no results. The log is attached below:

Spoiler:

Convert book 1 of 1 (Name of book removed for privacy)

This. And assuming that's fixed, you shouldn't convert AZW4/'Print Replica' books to PDF; they already are PDFs int a Kindle wrapper. Use the KindleUnpack plugin to extract the PDF from them.

The DRM has gone. If it was still present , calibre would say so and not try to convert.

This is a calibre support forum, not a 'how to use the internet forum' - sheesh.

Scroll down to the "Getting Help with the Tools" section, read what's there, click the 'open a new issue' link - for help with using GitHub ask at GitHub.

I'll give you general guidelines to follow in loading Kindle ebooks to Calibre; I just learned this myself in working with Calibre and plugins and suffered through troubleshooting:

1. eBooks you want to convert are best loaded into Calibre AFTER you've added your plugin(s) and restarted Calibre.

2. Any book you purchase from Amazon MUST be opened in an Amazon Kindle app, whether that's on your PC/Mac or other device that runs the Kindle software. It is the opening of the ebook in the Kindle app that 'sets up' the ebook and gives it the initial permissions. Without this step, Calibre won't be able to work with the file. This step is important for #3 below.

3. If you're going to load an ebook you purchased on Amazon into Calibre for conversion to another format, you need to do this *after* downloading/loading and opening the ebook on the Kindle app -AND- use the updated ebook file created and stored in the 'My Kindle Content' folder to load into Calibre.

It can take a bit of digging to find where the folder 'My Kindle Content' is stored on your computer or device, but it's this ebook file you need to load into Calibre. The file suffix will be .azw or .azw3 or something like that. The file name will be a bunch of letters that won't make any sense. Calibre knows how to input and read an .azw type file. You can drag that azw file into Calibre and it will load the ebook for you.

Hope this helps you work with Calibre and plugins and ebooks.

Or, just go into "Your content and Devices" in the Amazon Your Account menu, and download the book "for transfer by usb". Just click on "Actions" to see this. You can do this whether you bought the book on the device, or with your PC or phone. Will give you an azw3 file directly into the downloads folder. Saves all sorts of searching around. You don't need a Kindle app at all to do this.

Not at all. I've never opened any downloaded book in the Kindle app, and have never had any problems with Calibre or Alf's tools.

You have this option only if you own an actual Kindle device.

I did this very thing today and then loaded the ebook I downloaded from Amazon "content and devices/for transfer by usb" into Calibre and the book would *not* convert because of the DRM, even though I had the correct plugin to deal with that.

Then I tried the method I wrote about (which someone had told me) and the ebook successfully was converted by Calibre with no DRM problem.

Did you "customize" the plugin as per Alf's instructions?
