Why does calibre need to access the web to convert an ebook? I blocked calibre in my firewall, and now it won't convert.

Yep. I broke it. Calibre won't even shut down after I attempt a conversion, and this is on XP with .4.142.

it doesn't it needs access to your computer (it uses TCP/IP to control the worker processes)

You should add an exception for localhost (127.0.0.1).
