Question Does the Aura HD provide landscape mode

And my apologies if this was asked before (maybe by me)

Can someone please confirm if you can read (normal ebooks, not PDFs) on landscape mode same way you can on Kindle Paperwhite?

No E Ink Kobo provides anything but normal portrait reading for non-PDF ebooks. The Aura HD included: just normal portrait-mode display.

The AuraHD can, Kobo's software apparently does not. I can with Koreader on my AuraHD, and I am pretty sure I can with Coolreader on my AuraHD also. You can easily add both those alternate reading softwares to your AuraHD. This also suggests that the other Mark 4 Kobos can in the alternative ereader software, as well.

Hmm... interesting ... I know that's actually a software change. It was missing from Kindle Touch at the beginning, I think. An update fixed it.

So, is that alternative that you mention a software update or a firmware upgrade?

It is a hack more or less and I don't mean that in a derogatory way. I chose not to do it as I am not to keen on all the aspects and I still think stubbornly that Kobo should attempt to get their act together program and feature wise instead of the random path of fix this and then break it again, ad infinitum so they can perceive themselves doing something, that they have chosen to take.

I recently moved all of my books to the main memory from the SD card and it is like having a brand new reader with far more problems. Go figure.

They are alternative reading software that you can add to the existing two Kobo supplied reading software. Kobo provides an implementation of the Adobe Reader Mobile software ( a crippled one , in my opinion ) and reading software for their own proprietary "kepub" format. The Kobo user interface (Nickel) is used to call the proper reader. The alternative ereading software is also called using Nickel, so you maintain the full use of the Kobo software, with the alternative readers installed.

The alternative readers are "ports" of ereading software projects that remain in constant development, both the ports and the underlying projects are being improved frequently. In the installation instructions both of the alternative's download links are to "Nightly" Builds which are actually fully functional software. As they are constantly in development, it is possible to install a build that has an issue being worked on but even those of us who try out every build as they are released are still able to use them as our main reading software.

Luck;
Ken
