Having read a fair amount of his stuff I wouldn't say he disliked women or held them in contempt. He was, however, a Victorian believer in woman's place being in the home shielded from as much nastiness as possible. (sexist, yes; misogynist, no; miserable, as little as humanly possible)

The next season of Father Brown is running on BBC. That's how come i thought of it. I've seen all the shows, but I've never read the books. Seems like a good time to read if it wins. I was watching an episode last night when I nominated it.

We've got eleven successful nominations so far with two days to go. There's no limit on how many books make it to the poll (well, I think technically we're limited to 30), so all MobileReaders should feel free to continue nominating/supporting books up to their three-book limit.

Love me some Father Brown. Thanks for nominating it, Jon, and to Alohamora and estrangement for completing the nomination.

I will vote for Father Brown, but I don't see how he is relevant to the "colorful" category. What am I missing?

The category as originally described was "books with color-full titles", we took that an ran with it to be color-full associations to give more latitude to nominations. So it fits the original intent better than some of the others but I think we have better nominations overall by widening the category like we have.

I'm new to the book-club scene (ooh, doesn't that sound ... slightly ... it might be better if I don't finish that thought), but I must say that there is not a book on the list that I will not be very happy to read - including some that I will probably read whether they win or not.

I agree with gmw - I’m seeing several interesting books nominated, and ones I most probably wouldn’t have found otherwise (sad because my TBR is over 800) but actually
