I connect it to an Android tablet (using OTG cable) and copy the update file (using TotalCommander) to the Kindle's root directory.
After disconnecting the Kindle, I enter the Menu->Settings->Menu, but the Update option is greyed-out and Restart is the only corresponding option. Where am I wrong ... ? |

@zeev: You're not using the correct file for your exact Kindle model (or Android is being dumb and mangling the files).

Hi,
After all the failed attempts to jailbreak my Kindle, I've just resetted it to the Factory Defaults. Now it can be done from scratch ... |

Nope, it didn't work.
I've copied the update_jailbreak_0.11.N_k3w_uninstall.bin file (downloaded from MobileRead.com site) to the Kindle's root directory. The "Update Your Kindle" option is still grayed-out. What could be done about ? |

Since the Factory (Amazon/lab126) does not know all about all of our modifications - it can't possibly reverse them all properly. So don't assume you are "starting from scratch". You are more likely now "starting from more messed up than before". |

Finally I've succeeded to update, using the update_jailbreak_0.11.N_k3w_install.bin file from the kindle-jailbreak-0.11.N.niluje.zip repository.
By the way, how do I verify that my Kindle was jail-broken ? Now comes the main target of this PROJECT of mine - I would like to install the CoolReader 3. Last edited by zeev; 02-10-2014 at 03:00 AM. |

No MR device jailbreak, no workie. A good one to try would be KUAL - installing its prerequisites package will also be installing all prerequisites for anything else here. |

k3w fw 3.4 - no linkss folder after successful updates
hi there!
I have a K3w with FW 3.4 and I used your latest JB & SS files provided in the first post of this thread. excellent work on the instructions, they are bullet proof I used the correct files (k3w) and during the process, it said UPDATE SUCCESSFUL both times. yet, there is NO "linkss" folder on the kindle. any ideas on that? best regards! |

@MonkeyKong: Either you're missing something obvious, or something's seriously wrong with your device.
How long was the update process for the SS install? |

thank you for your quick reply!
the JB update process took just a few seconds. not even half a minute. the SS update however took a while longer, close to a minute I'd say. I mailed you the files. |

@MonkeyKong: Then I can't see what might have gone wrong. Restart your device and try again?
If you happen to have KUAL installed, did the ScreenSavers extension pop up in there? |

as I am fairly new to all this, could you be a little more specific?
simply restart the kindle and install SS again? or both JB & SS? or uninstall first? nope, no KUAL on there. |

@MonkeyKong: Just the SS hack. I'd add you're welcome to delete the linkss folder manually first to make sure, but, haha, that's your issue, so .

I have reinstalled the SS hack and it did not change anything.
idk if this is of any help, but here's a screenshot of all the kindle's contents: |
