Which E-Reader does all the fuctions?

If I were to stick to just the one which would read all the available formats, which one should I go for? I don't like to accumulate all sorts of readers for various formats. Could somebody point out the best reader to me?

Welcome to MobileRead, rushdie

None read ALL the available formats. You need to decide which store (Amazon, Sony, BN) has the most books in the genre you like the best with the lowest prices.

Also, if you are considering checking out library books for your reader, you need to look at your local library to see what they offer.

Mine reads PDF and epub. If you want support for a lot of formats try the Jet Book.

PocketBook devices read nearly all available formats. They only support 1 DRM scheme though.

One option is to use Calibre on a PC to convert everything to one format (typically MOBI, for Kindle, or ePub for anything else).

The best of the latest crop of readers for multiple formats is the PocketBok 602. It uses FBReader for all DRM-free (not encrypted) formats, which means that they all work consistently well but FBReader does not support all the features of all formats. I like it, and use it everyday for all my reading, but I typically convert to ePub with a custom stylesheet first using Calibre.

The widest DRM/format support is available on the iPad, but obviously it is very different to eInk readers like the Kindle and Nook, and may not fit your needs. It is much bigger and heavier, more expensive and uses an LCD display, giving much shorter battery life.

Thank you very much, you have helped me Immeasurably with your referral to Calibre.
I have a bunch of pdf's which are now converted to the Nook format. I just bought the Nook and was about ready to send it back but am a happy camper now.
Again, thanks wallcraft
