Talking Free (nook/Kindle/iTunes/DRM-free) The Tuxedoed Man [Manitoba Police Procedural]

The Tuxedoed Man by Canadian author Marcelle Dubé is the 2nd in her Mendenhall Mystery series starring Kate Williams, the newly hired police chief in a small Manitoba town just outside of Winnipeg (current reigning car-theft capital of Canada, I might as well add, a crown it finally retrieved from challenger Surrey in BC a couple of years ago). This is free courtesy of publisher Falcon Ridge, which to be quite frank, doesn't seem to carry anyone else's books and is most likely a self-pub "press" name.

But the reason why this is the selected feature ebook of the day is because once upon a time, I bought the 1st in series, The Shoeless Kid, which was published in 2011 by Harlequin's Carina Press imprint, during a sale.

I read it and while it's not one of the great works in the field, overall liked and found it decent enough that I said at the time that I'd be willing to shell out $2.50 for the next-in-series if it went to half-price during a future Read an Ebook Week sale (which incidentally didn't happen).

And lo and behold, said next-in-series that I was willing to shell out actual money for has become free!

Currently free @ Smashwords (DRM-free in multiple formats available worldwide), and thence to B&N (also UK), Amazon (not price-matched yet for Canadians or in the UK, but you can speed the process up by using the Report A Lower Price function if you want a copy for your Kindle archive), Kobo & iTunes (both available to Canadians).

I'll note that if you happen to want to try the Carina-published 1st in series, Carina are currently listing on their website their Black Friday coupon BFSAV40 for 40% off everything in their store, good until 11:59 PM EST on Friday only. ETA: the fine print also says it's a 1-time use coupon, so best to load up your cart before checking out.

Also, I will note that even though it was out from a Harlequin spin-off imprint, there were no romantic elements in the 1st book and it was a fairly straightforward getting-adjusted-to-the-new-career-situation-and-oh-yeah-finding-the-missing-kid small town police procedural.

And this has been the selected 3rd (non-repeat) free ebook thread of the day.

Because it's exceedingly rare that even mildly-thinking-of stuff I've semi-forgotten about on my wishlist ever goes free. So this is a cause for some minor rejoicing.

Enjoy!

Description
An 'accidental' death, a train wreck and dark secrets in a deadly northern winter:

When a man wearing a tux—but no shoes—turns up dead at the scene of a train crash, Kate Williams, chief of police of a tiny northern town, quickly realizes that his death wasn’t accidental. During one of the most brutal winters in recent memory, Kate needs all her resources to discover how the dead man ended up in the snow. The deeper she digs, the deeper the mystery.

When her beautiful niece suddenly arrives on her doorstep, sowing distraction and rivalry among Kate’s constables, Kate worries that she may have to ship her niece back home, if only to get everyone’s attention back on the guy in the tux.

Then her niece goes missing.

The Tuxedoed Man is the second in the Mendenhall Mysteries series featuring Kate Williams, newly hired chief of police. The first was The Shoeless Kid, in which Kate deals with a mutinous deputy chief and a missing boy, and the Cop Games that have invaded her tiny town.

I get a message that the coupon code isn't valid:

We're sorry, but the specified coupon code is not valid.
When I look at the splash on the home page, it says the code is Black Friday only - so maybe it's not good yet (Thursday)? It gives an expiration date/time, but no start date/time.

Has anyone gotten it to work yet?

Carina's phrasing could be a little clearer, but I got the impression that people would just have to wait until Friday to use it.

But at least they gave advance warning so shoppers could check their wishlists?

ETA: the fine print also says it's a 1-time use coupon, so best to load up your cart before checking out.
