Well, does not have good commercial English dictionaries is a whole different statement than does not have dictionaries, period.

I personally try my best to get by with free reading material as far as possible, because devices alone cost more than enough. Getting by fine for now.

Certainly dictionaries are a feature that matter to some people, but not to others. I love language, and appreciate having a good dictionary to look up words I'm unfamiliar with, so for me personally having a good dictionary is an important feature of a reader. The OP may of course have completely different priorities!

Thank you so much for pointing this out, Harry. It is very important to me to be able to point to a word and have the English definition pop up in the way it does in the Paperwhite. You've probably saved me for making a big mistake.

I've narrowed the field to a choice between the Kobo Clara HD and the Pocketbook Touch HD 2.

If you're interested in my thought processes, these are the notes I've made:

The Kobo Clara HD vs the Pocketbook Touch HD 2.

PROS AND CONS OF BOTH:

CLARA: has warm light and allows me to load custom fonts. Can also customise fonts lots. However, has between 12 and 14 leds and a known issue with light bleed on many devices. Uses Kobo ebook store, but can 'Alf' kindle books for it. Many ebook formats.
This is the one I'd buy if not for light bleed and between 12 and 14 leds.
But both of these are major issues.

POCKETBOOK TOUCH HD 2: has warm light, buttons (not sure how I feel about this). Although I can't load custom fonts (or can I? Confused about this,) I love one of the onboard fonts (which I've seen in vids). Less ability to customise fonts, but can be done far more than my current Paperwhite. I do not know how many leds it has. No light issues read about so far. Unfortunately has onboard games, but unappealing (chess, sudoku). Not linked to any ebook store. Can 'Alf' kindle books. Many ebook formats.
More expensive than Clara, but affordable. I know less about it than the Clara, and would purchase from Amazon (marketplace seller), who don't actually make the product. May be problems with registration, but this may not be necessary as not linked to ebook store.

NOTE: the Pocketbook doesn't have an English dictionary already loaded. Ouch! This might be a dealbreaker!

NOTE 2: the MR Pocketbook dept is less populated than the Kobo dept.
