Does anyone know of a alternate OS for a 5th Gen Nano? I have tried Ipod Linux but it didn't work and wasn't supported.

There aren't any, Apple had been encrypting the firmware for awhile then. RockBox only worked on the 1st gen but wasn't even that usable.

I agree. With iPod net sales only amounting to 1% of Apple's sales, I would not be surprised to see the iPod line decreased, especially the iPod touch, or perhaps discontinued a few years from now. I've read some speculation that Apple might seek to replace the current iPod lineup with future wearable devices. Who knows though, but I doubt the iPod Touch will survive much longer. Don't forget that they failed to update it in 2013. That is probably a sign for the future.

They have long been a low seller but the customers are often parents buying one for their children. Apple needs this as a lead in to future sales from those same children. IMHO it should be targeted more in that direction.
