Problem transferring from device to library
I lose covers and get a gobbeldegook title when I do this. It is weird because I transferred a bunch of my public domain stuff fine. The rest of my stuff (also pd) is now not transferring right. Thanks for any help.

From what device?
Different devices have their own way of cover display.
Calibre usually looks at the metadata if not set to get from Filename (no picture in a filename )

Any chance that while the contents of the books might be PD, the books themselves are DRM protected?

Nope. These are books that came free on the device. Some work and some don't.
