Thumbs up Free (Kindle) Persecution Trail by Denis Hughes [Missing Cattle Mystery Western]

Persecution Trail by the late British author Denis Hughes (ISFDB, SFE) is his vintage standalone historical western action adventure novel, this one a hybrid Old West detective story, starring an an ex-Federal Marshall who sets up shop as investigator with an old partner, taking on what should be a simple case of tracking down some cattle, which sparks their suspicions and leads them on the trail of something deeper and darker, free for a limited time courtesy of publisher Endeavour Press' Pioneering imprint.

This was originally published in 1956 by Herbert Jenkins using the pseudonym Ken Kester.

Currently free @ Amazon (available to Canadians & in the UK and pretty much everywhere else Amazon sells worldwide, since this is being done via their KDP Select exclusive-or-else program)

Description
Once a lawman, always a lawman…

After years as a Federal Marshall, Ricky Degard sets himself up as an investigator with his saddle-partner Boyd Fennick.

The two of them have experience, but when they take a job tracking down Oby Rawling’s cattle they may be biting off more than they can chew.

Degard and Fennick can’t trust anyone – the sheriff, the townsfolk, and even Oby Rawling himself seem suspicious.

But as the pieces begin to come together, they’re starting to make a darker and darker picture.

When Degard and Fennick find themselves on the trail of a group of men known as the Justice Riders, they’re going to get as far away from justice as it’s possible to go.

It’s not long before guns are smoking all across the grazing lands.

On the Persecution Trail, friends will turn into enemies and the suspects might just be the ones who save your life.

In this sharp-paced western meets detective novel, Denis Hughes will draw you in and keep you reading well into the night.
