No Mercy by J. T. Brindle (ISFDB), suspense-writing pseudonym of popular literary/women's fiction author Josephine Cox (Wikipedia) is her standalone-looking contemporary Gothic suspense thriller with possible supernatural horror-ish elements (a lot of the other "Jane Brindle" books seem to have that element of lurking unfathomable evil in their blurbs, though that could just be a literary conceit) involving a bereaved family and a sinister house that's probably going to turn out to be haunted or accursèd in some way, free courtesy of publisher Head of Zeus, who are e-printing it from its 1992 Sphere paperback.

Currently free @ B&N UK, Amazon UK, & Kobo (available in the UK), and seems to also be free in assorted EU & antipodal countries when I spot-check various regional Amazon stores.

If it turns out you like this one and would like to read more of Brindle/Cox's writing, Head of Zeus titles appear to be couponable @ Kobo.

Unlikely to make a stop in the middle of the pond, as this doesn't seem to exist in ebook version from any publisher in North America.
