I think that is the reason, very few programmers. Also the programmers they have seems to make basic mistakes like not testing things like battery time before releasing a new firmware...

The difference between Bookeen and Jinkie is instructive. When the Hanlin V3 came out I was sure it would never take off in the West, but the hardware is sound and they have incrementally improved the software to where is is now good enough in many areas. This does in part seem to be due to partners (LBook in particular). Bookeen relies on Netronix for its hardware, which has been tweaked into to an acceptable device. It had relatively polished software out of the gate, but is having a hard time improving it.

At present, by all accounts, MOBI support on the Hanlin is well behind the Cybook. However, Jinkie is incrementally improving its MOBI support over time and Bookeen is doing who knows what.

I think wallcraft's last frase resumes it precisely:
«(...)and Bookeen is doing who knows what.»

Of course it could just be that there are an awful lot more Sony users out there than Cybook users.

Out of curiosity, what kind of mods / hacks are you talking about ? Is there a place / thread where these are described, also summarily ?
