Ebookreader in wood?
Has anyone tried popping open, say a Kobo Touch, and then made a case out of wood? I know you can get skins but wouldn't a ebookreader in a wood case be nice? And ifyou had a little metal inlay across the top of the frame it's would be very Steampunky...

Thanks but you misunderstand. I was wondering if someone had replaced the actual frame of an ebookreader.

I seem to remember seeing someone posting about taking the shell off of a netbook and replacing it with a custom made wooden one. Don't remember where and so far have not seen any other projects of this kind.

If they can make a toilet into a computer, they can make a wooden case for an ereader.

oohhh, I would love a steampunky kindle. Hell, I'd even get a touch model if that was the only way to get one. (want, want, want)

Oh-h-h-h
Oh ........... that's sad.
From the thread title, I thought it was a "found in a wood after alien landing" - type ereader experience........ Anyway, if it's a wooden cover you want, be too much work - anti-woodworm, paint it with creosote every summer, get accused of killing trees..... |

I don't know...even if it was sanded down properly, I'd still manage to get a splinter from the damn thing.
Can you imagine, like a scene from The Birds, being attacked by a bunch of woodpeckers while you were outside reading? |

I love the idea!! And I can't imagine it would be that difficult to do for a touch reader since all you'd need to do is pop it out of it's plastic case and make a wooden one with a hole in the top. A nice maple would remove most of the splinter risk. Trick would probably be getting the edge clearance for the IR assuming you have a newer touch screen. Just not sure I can bring myself to sacrifice my Kobo Touch to try it.

Hmm maybe if I tried with Kobo Wifi? And the wood should be light but hard.. Since I'm in Sweden I can easily get Birch and Masur (kind of Birch burl that can be polished) Wheels whirling...

Your wood-encased Kobo hopes are similarly crushed, it seems. |

You could probably make it out of Compreg or Dymondwood. This is laminate of birch or beech impregnated with acrylic resin and is extremely strong. Compreg is usually plain, whereas Dymondwood dyes the veneers different colours before laminating.

Yea, but it would be indistinguishable from real plastic. But you'd know. |
