Best Short Story: “Exhalation”, Ted Chiang (Eclipse Two)
Certainly one of the best SF short stories I've ever read. |

I don't think "The Merchant and the Alchemist’s Gate" is available to read for free online but you can get a free audio version at StarshipSofa for anyone who wants some more of his work.

I highly recommend both The Graveyard Book and Girl Genius. The latter is available online here: http://girlgeniusonline.com -- updated Monday, Wednesday, and Friday each week-- and ebook versions of past issues ARE available for very reasonable prices-- see that URL for links to their shop. The ebooks are PDF, because of the graphical nature of the work, but to my mind this is a good reason to use that format. The only DRM used is watermarking.

I loved The Graveyard Book! Sadly, it was too short. I wish it had a second volume.

I'd love it if this was made into a movie like Coraline... |

Gaiman would have to come up with a different plot for a sequel to The Graveyard Book (though in The Jungle Books, Mowgli does come back to live in the jungle for a while, and then he and his friends get rather involved with the local human population briefly).
I'd like to read more about these characters too, but sometimes an idea is only big enough for one book. And Gaiman isn't especially well-known for sequels. |
