Google Doodle Celebrates Moby-Dick

Today marks the 161st anniversary of the publication of Moby-Dick and Google is celebrating with one of their doodles.

This classic tale of revenge by Herman Melville was first published in England on 18 Oct 1851 and then in the US on 14 Nov 1851.

Quote:
The story tells the adventures of wandering sailor Ishmael, and his voyage on the whaleship Pequod, commanded by Captain Ahab. Ishmael soon learns that Ahab has one purpose on this voyage: to seek out Moby Dick, a ferocious, enigmatic white sperm whale. In a previous encounter, the whale destroyed Ahab's boat and bit off his leg, which now drives Ahab to take revenge.

Excellent. Definitely a Classic. I recently watched a PBS special on Whaling/Melville/MobyDick that was wonderful. Here it is, American Experience:

Enjoy!

saw it and guessed it would figure here too, with lots of shallow weenies dumping it

it's on my reading list, but I'm currently going through The Complete Plato (reading Charmides right now), re-reading The adventures of Tom Sawyer and in between reading Wool, so it looks like it'll take a while
