What do use your eDGe for?

What are you looking to use the eDGe for? Is it just for personal use, an education institution, or for business/ work?

Well, I put personal and other. I'm hoping to use it in education, but I need my curriculum companies to make pdf files so I can use them on the eDGe first. Currently, they are 100% paper.

Personal + school

Right now more personal, but I am really looking forward to the textbook store and hoping all my books are available.

I use it as a platform to prepare some reading intensive exams, say USMLE.

So far, my usage is a mirror image of kenjennings.....75% personal, 25% business. But that 25% sure is awesome!

It's kind of surprising how much personal use the device is getting. I imagine the eductation numbers will grow this fall as students hear more about it and start buying them.

Interestingly, for something that is solidly pointed at education the Personal + Business categories together total three times everything else. (as of 2010-04-13) Maybe there's not enough marketing toward students/schools?

I'd like to hear what people describe as "other" uses. ( Foldable, mini toboggen or surfboard? Oversized money clip? )

Hi,

I am almost ready to get the Edge. . . I will need it for 90% business & 10% personal... I will use it for:

1. Documentation
2. Photo Editing - Post Processing
3. Emailing
4. Video Editing
5. Application Downloads.
6. Web Site Development

I want the edge to be my Laptop "replacement --- > I currently am using an 18.4" Acer (runs well) too big and heavy...

Thanks,

Ken

Ken, keep in mind the eDGe has only a 0.8 GHz single-core CPU. Items 2, 4 and 6 are outside the scope of what the eDGe was designed for and can do.

Item 5 is possible in as far as what Android apps you can find outside the Android marketplace (a fraction of the apps available through the Android Marketplace, which Google continues to restrict to cell-phones only).

The eDGe's primary purposes are eReading, PDF reading & annotation, pen note-taking, light browsing and light email, and light music/video playing.

The problem is Textbooks

Most ebook textbooks are heavily drm protected, requiring special software to open or available through web pages only. The two I have this semester are in spdf format and no printing to file. To add to that aggravation you don't really own the book, it disappears in, usually, 180 days. I took a giant leap in faith with the Edge and the promised textbooks.

I get all my textbooks in pdf format and have for a while. The disabilities services office at my university is quite good at obtaining e-versions of textbooks for people with vision problems such as myself. When the publishing company does not or cannot provide a pdf version they will usually scan the entire book for me into a pdf file. I used to have a kindle which I would use for my textbooks but kindle's reflow was terrible! The edge is perfect for all my studenting needs and of course it has become my goto device for personal as well. Yesterday someone at school had an ipad and we traded devices for a minute. I will admit that the ipad is a pretty toy but it simply can't compete with the comprehensive set of capabilities that the edge has to offer (that will be even more true when flash and the camera are working)! I love my edge so much I shall give it a name... Virgil? Maybe...
