I usually keep the originals ... but it's really more like I don't bother deleting them.

I have a 2 TB hard drive for my music files, but ebooks? I just filled a CD-R, and that took a couple years.

I delete my original files after I strip the DRM and store it Calibre.

I strip the DRM, and then add them books to Calibre (separate library). As this simply makes a copy of the file and renames them, I can safely remove the original stripped one. The original DRM'd one will have been gone already.

Definitely. I have a 15TB media server that I rip all my BluRays and DVDs to, so using less than 700MB or so to store my collection of original ebooks is no great strain.

Considering the small file sizes, I'd rather have them and not need them than need them and not have them.
