Amazon gift ecards for friends outside US?

Apparently I can’t gift a Kindle book from my Amazon US account to a friend outside the US, due to georestrctions.

As a possible workaround, can I gift that friend an Amazon electronic gift card that they can then use to buy an ebook in their country? If so, how do I do that?

Amazon gift cards must be bought on the same site the person will use. A card bought on the US site can only be used on the US site, etc.

Can I buy a gift ecard on the UK site, using a US credit card, to be emailed to a UK user?

As long as you do it on amazon.co.uk I don't see a problem.

You may also be able to buy an eBook on the UK site and gift it to the UK person. Gifting eBooks has recently been added to the UK site.
I have done this in reverse (bought an eBook on the US site with a UK credit card, gifted to a US person).
