Device: Kobo Clara HD
SSH/FTP over USB

Hello everyone!

I followed this tutorial by RunasSudo (Yingtong Li):

Hacking the Kobo Clara HD
01: Hacking the internal microSD storage
02: Bypassing registration
03: Gaining root telnet access
4.1: Telnet over USB
4.2: Automatically starting telnet over USB on connect
4.3: Automatically switching between USB networking and file transfer
05: Setting up SSH

Extra info:
I updated to Firmware 4.12.12111 after all this and SSH is still working.

My device was manufactured 19/05/2018 and still has the lightbleed on the lower 2 corners.
I will apply this fix later: Clara HD fix by Karin Nelson

I tried 3 SD cards. 16GB, 64GB, 256GB all of them work. (I stuck with 16GB)

Everything in the tutorial is working accept for telnet over USB.

Questions:

1. It's possible to compile nano (text editor)?

2: Also I can't get 4.1 to work it just gives me a bunch of errors about the commands not being found on both usbtoeth and usbtosd scripts. Also FTP kicks me back out... See errors below.

I removed the question about the dictionaries. I was unable to sync dictionaries on 4.11 but now that I updates to 4.12.12111 the dictionaries downloaded! I can see them under
\.kobo\dict

Why, yes, of course .

Spoiler alert: it may or may not conflict with your existing telnet/ssh shenanigans. Manual factory reset highly recommended if you want to start from scratch.
Spoiler alert: but at least it'll work with basically zero effort on your part.
