I clicked on Robin Buss's name on Amazon and it took me to all of the books he translated. I just checked and it appears that this is not translated by him. I am going to have to ask Amazon about this.

The book I referred to earlier is now 8.99, and the .49 version no longer states it was translated by Robin Buss. Someone at Amazon must have made some changes after I posted about this earlier.

The Robin Buss translation is exclusive to Penguin Classics. Any other edition (of which there are many!) will be using the old Chapman and Hall text (or some edited version of it).

The $.49 version was a Penguin Book and stated it was translated by Robin Buss. Amazon (USA) changed the price from $.49 to $8.99 after I first posted about it.

Yes, but it's not really set in an alien culture. It takes place in the future, but the characters and their motivations are still human, or so I remember.

I hadn't thought of "The Stars my Destination" as a Monte Cristo style plot. I must re-read it.

I thought of this thread the other day as I watched the end of the 1980's Dan Aykroyd/Eddie Murphy film Trading Places - a comedic take on appropriate revenge

I've had this thought myself - but then I decided that properly written Monte Cristo plot set in a really alien culture should be not recognizable as such to human reader .

I read the book in French, but still didn't like it. There is an anime loosely based on Cristo, that too was not up to snuff.
