Why are threads closed?
What is the policy when deciding to close a thread? Closing duplicate threads is obvious. But why was the thread about the Harry Potter books closed?
And can moderators that participate in the thread close it? I think they should not be able to do it but that maybe is the policy. |

One of the threads was closed becuase it was a duplicate. The other should still be open.

One of the main reasons is when adults begin to behave badly, resulting in some of the issues listed below:
1) Name-calling that begins to spread like a cancer and continues to deteriorate the overall health of the thread vis-a-vis the topic under discussion. 2) Offensive language, such that (like #1), it begins to spread. 3) Attitudinal issues that create ill-feelings in the rest of the community. Don |

The case that got me wondering was I realize now a moderator posting in a closed thread. That happens a lot so I really think the user interface need a warning so that not happens.

I entirely agree. I didn't notice that the thread was closed when I posted to it. I think this is on Alex's "to do" list - it's been requested by us mods several times!

Your first post was before the thread was closed. Only your second was posted after.

Quick and Dirty way to do this is make the thread closed button alot larger and red. I am sure there is an addon that Fixes or more than likely warns said Mod or admin about this. but i never found that it warranted me to look for it on any of my forums. there is also more than likely a way to disable posting in closed topics in the pages and pages(and more pages!) of adminCP. |
