Ok, thanks guys.
One more question. In the tutorial it is highlighted to stay permanently in airplain mode after doing the jb. In other words do I loose all the benefits of having the ability to upload books, pdf's etc over WiFi? That's a real bummer. Is it ok to exit airplane mode briefly until I upload my things? (and probably I go and check the Amazon site to be sure there are no new fw updates released before I do this) Also if something goes wrong, can I still recover my device by entering dfu mode (or whatever) as described in the hardware jailbreak (popcorn) thread? |

@szabio, it just recommended staying in Airplane mode during JB to prevent "automatic" updating firmware to the versions that this JB method does not support.
After you finish with the JB patch/hotfix, you can turn off Airplane mode. |

I would also suggest you keep your firmware no higher that 5.14.2, as that will allow you to do the JB again if something happens to disable it. For example, if someone for some reason uses the factory reset while you are on a higher firmware level you are out of luck until another vulnerability is located.

Yesterday I received my new kindle paperwhite. It's out of the box already on firmware 5.14.3.0.1 so I think I'm out of luck.

5.14.4? It is not supported by JB.
And you can’t downgrade without JB. |

Hey everyone!
I would like to ask, Does system reset will revert the jailbreak? Previously I have successfully jb'en my PW5 (KOReader worked). Yesterday, I decided to reset my Kindle after tinkering around with system packages. After the reset done, the "Kindle Feedback" item is still present. I thought that my Kindle is still jb'en. However, when I tried to install KOReader (after KUAL and MRPI), KOReader won't start. Then I took a look at KUAL log, and several lines said "permission denied", which I thought that the jb is gone. Enable Airplane mode, restart twice, you should have your jb back.
Otherwise, just make sure not to have two such things in a row without restoring jb: factory reset or firmware update (in any order and quantity) |
