If anyone is interested, here is a link to a deb package of the Synergy software.

Synergy is a mouse and keyboard sharing program, a bit like VNC without the video. I have found it very useful for controlling Obuntu. You will need to install the server software on your main computer from the project website.

Well, and how about reverse ssh with X forwarding, or Xdmx? It works as nicely with nix machines.

failed obuntu install

Hi All,

I tried to install the obuntu as described in the first post.
After I press the "Update Obuntu" menu item the device just restarts and booting the BOOX software.

I attached a serial USB console on the device, so I saw the console messages.
This is the end of the console messages:

Even I would be interested to know. Since I installed Obuntu I was still at version 1.8 20130407 of original firmware, because "Update Onyx" does not work ...

With the last version available, i understand that obuntu is installed in the M92 (not in the SD card). For this installation, is it possible to use a normal SD, formared in FAT, or is it necessary to use an ext partition ?

In fact,here is my problem:
Installation failed on my device. As several users, after i select Obuntu Installation, my M92 reboot (after 30seconds).So, I install the files contained in Obuntu_xxx.tar.gz in the new partition created on the SD cards (as described page 7 of this topic), but after, when i select Obuntu in the boot loader, nothing happened ! If i try to select Obuntu installation, device restart after 30 seconds...

I have formated my device with MFG tool and the last version of onyx Os is installed.

Thanks a lot for your help !!!

I tryed again the installation but it failed again same step : reboot after 30s during obuntu installation. This time, i use the "unlocker" of seaniko. But when i flash it, my device reboot. Is it possible de check that this unlocker installation is right ? And a last question, after the use of MFG tool, is it necessary to flash again the unlocker?

I don't understand why my installation failed. The only difference with the other users is that i have installed the last firmware of Boxtor... (my M92 comes from e reader shop)
Thanks in advance !

Always KO
@dbj
@arungra
@amelco
Could you please confirm that what i do is right :
1: execute flash.oar
2: shutdown the device and reboot on bootloader then select Update Obuntu (here, device restart after 30s)
3: with a linux pc, extract file on the partition of 2Go of the sd card (create during step 2)
(I use a command line like this : tar -pxzvf OBUNTU.update-20130816.tar.gz -C /media/path_to_SD_card)
4: shutdown device and boot on bootloader

Here i try 2 solution :
- select obuntu update : M92 reboot after 30s like the first time
- select start obuntu : M92 freeze, and a reset must be done

Where is my mistake ? (i have an e reader store device)

Thanks is advance !

@geoek: Have you tried to re-download Obuntu? Maybe the file is corrupted. Here is the md5sum of my file:

9d83e3d776206ad3e8bf154b9dd1e2af OBUNTU.update-20130816.tar.gz

Since everything is working with me, I assume that the md5sum is correct. So compare yours with mine. Must be the same.
Just run in a terminal:
Code:
md5sum OBUNTU.update-20130816.tar.gz
The steps are correct. I did exactly what you're doing.

Thanks a lot Amelco !

I just check the md5 sum and it is not the same... So, i am downloading again the file !
However, just a question : after the extraction of the tar file on the sd card, could you confirm that you must select again Obuntu Update in the bootloader or select Run Obuntu ?

(and i always don't understand why it is impossible to install obuntu in the internal memory... after reading all the topic, i understand that the 16/08/13 version of the bootloader should install obuntu in the internal memory...)

@amelco :
I don't have the same check sum : mine is c43916821b27507a3794e9bbcd2cd47d (after several try)
What is the name of your file ? the dropbox link on the first page is for : OBUNTU.update-20130717.tar.gz

Do you have the same file ? If it is not the same, could you give a link towards your file please !

Thanks a lot !

After extract the files to SD card, you should select "Boot Obuntu" on the initial screen.
