comics vs ebooks

Can someone please explain how i can distinguish my comic collection from book collection? Should I run two separate libraries?

Comics tend to have lots of images. (and have a bigger file size)
There are comic formats: CBR & CBZ,. but nothing prevents other formats.

Unfortunate (for you), The Quality Check (or other plugin) does not have a 'count image files' tool . That would narrow the field somewhat (There are books with graphical chapter heads that can have a fairly high image count)

You could add a custom column, (perhaps called Type), which lets you pick from a list of values – in this case simply "Book" or "Comic". You would then need to manually enter the Type value for each item in your calibre library and do this as you add new items. This would let you distinguish between the 2 types using a search, and a virtual library may be useful too.

You could also extend the list if necessary in the future, (e.g. "Plays", "Documents").

Running 2 libraries would also work but you wouldn't be able to search your whole collection in one go.

Running two libraries is a possibility, but I would suggest a virtual library instead. Once you get the hang of them, they're easier to manage and you're able to search everything.

If you're only using CBR and CBZ files, the search query would look something like this:

Code:
formats:"=CBR" or formats:"=CBZ"
If you're using other formats, you can also use other fields in your search query, such as tags and the aforementioned custom columns.

@sneakypete - I run separate libraries because I want different custom columns for Books and Comics. When I started with calibre, Virtual Libraries didn't exist. And View Manager doesn't fully interoperate with Virtual Libraries in the way I think it should, there's a work around via one of the Job Spy tools, but it's just as as easy to switch between two different libraries.

One irritant is that calibre's search history is global, so I see Comic related searches in the search bar drop down when I'm looking at Books.

Having two libraries means I can't search Books and Comics, but I don't find that's much of a problem, for me there's very little cross over between the two.

BR
