iPad Nook App Removes in-app Purchasing
Not surprising for those who have been following the ongoing saga, but here's a new article on the topic:
http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-31747_7...ipad-nook-app/ The app description is amusing: Open your browser to shop! I really don't understand the point of this in-app sales agreement Apple is pushing on everyone -- are they going to make enough money to offset annoyed customers? This isn't some obscure techie detail that only Mobile Readers understand -- it's simple enough for Apple User and Android User to compare notes to realize that the apple apps are being systematically crippled... I believe that the Kindle and Kobo apps have removed in-app purchasing as well. While I like Apple products, I think this is a bad move by Apple.

Another reason I'm so happy with my rooted Nook Color.

I think it's one of Apple's more stupid moves. They want 3% of all sales and weren't getting it. They forced the issue and now.... They still aren't getting 3% of sales and folks are still reading on their Kindle and Nook apps. What next? Ban the ebook apps?

Or did they really think that this would be a worthwhile profit maker from the little apps that couldn't afford to just turn off buying? I can't see it -- the measly amounts of revenue they generate cannot possibly be worth the bad press and customer frustration. I just don't understand Apple sometimes. |

This has been discussed in depth on several threads. Check murraypaul's posts for a reasonable interpretation of Apple's thinking on this .

What we are talking about is a cut of the future of ideas. When an idea is distributed Apple would like a cut...
You might say, "If someone would like to distribute their idea on iOS then they should be forced to abide by Apple's rules" Or you might say, "Since iOS has become so popular, idea dissemination on the platform should be regulated to be as free as possible since the only real way to advance the species is to distribute ideas, and the only real way to distribute ideas is via a popular platform, so it is a no brainer to regulate iOS to be as free as possible, anything less would be uncivilized, savvy?" |

That may be so, but now we're in this strange situation where an Apple/Android throw-down now has the VERY obvious advantage that "oh, I can buy Kindle/Nook/Kobo/Sony/whatever books from my phone. You have to exit out of the app and use the browser? Huh."
