Question Command line conversion not including metadata in cover generation

Hi,

I'm trying to convert files via a batch file, which works fine with just the filename using this syntax:
ebook-convert "filename.html" "filename.epub"

What I'd like is to add the publisher name to the front cover. In the GUI, I've set the sub-title template to {publisher}, and unchecked the 'get metadata from file only' option. When I generate covers from the GUI, it works.

But when I run it from the CLI or batch the metadata isn't added to the cover. The syntax I'm using is:
ebook-convert "filename.html" "filename.epub" --publisher "publisher name"

Am I missing something? Should this work?

As I recall, EPUB default cover generation does not use the full cover generation facility from the GUI, it only has title, series and author available to it.

Thanks. I tried changing it to series but got the same result: it works in the GUI but nothing appears in the cover when it's generated via the CLI.

Are there any metadata items that can be added to the cover that way? Is that not what the --metadata option is for?

Works for me with the following command line:

ebook-convert test.txt .epub --series XXX --series-index 3 --title test --authors me

the cover in the epub had title, authors and series in it.

Thumbs up

Aha! I hadn't included the series index - when I added that in the series name shows as well. Both parts are required, then.

Thank you! That's saved me a lot of editing through the GUI.

I appreciate your help

Incidentally, is there a way to NOT have the series number show up on the cover?

I tried leaving it blank or setting it to a space but then the series name does show.

Thanks!

AFAIK, trying to use series without avalid series index is not going to work.

I tried it once for some obscure reason, didn't work.
