Agency titles for sale again at Books on Board

Thought people would be interested to know that Harper Collins books at least are back up and for sale at Books on Board. (The same titles are NOT back at Fictionwise.)

The description now includes a line in the buy now page saying "This item's price is set by the publisher and is not subject to discount or rewards specials."

The book I've just bought didn't give me any reward dollars, but I could use previously earned reward dollars against it.

Pricing still looks odd --

E.g. The Thief series by Megan Whalen Turner --
Book 4 - newly released - Conspiracy of Kings - Ebook $9.99, cheapest pbook=hardback:list price $16.99
Book 3 - King of Attolia - Ebook $10.99, cheapest pbook=paperback:list price $7.99
Book 2 - Queen of Attolia - Ebook $4.99, cheapest pbook=paperback:list price $6.99
Book 1 - The Thief - Ebook $10.99, cheapest pbook=paperback:list price $ 6.99

E.g. Discworld Series
Guards Guards - Ebook $9.99
Hogfather- Ebook $6.99
Moving Pictures- Ebook $10.99
Monstrous Regiment - Ebook $7.99
Reaper Man - Ebook - $5.99
Sourcery - Ebook $10.99
All the paperbacks have a list price of $7.99. People who know the series will know that none of the books I checked are recent releases.

All the ebooks listed above now have the price-set-by-publisher text at Books on Board

Oh the joy

seems like people who said they would cost more than the pback copy were right!
seems like those who said they would be cheaper than the Pback copy were right!

I wonder if its in effect a survey? eg similiar age books by same author see which makes most money? ebook at $5.99 Reaper man or moving pictures at $10.99 then in three months shift prices to whichever price band] has made most profit?

I think Harper Collins has messed up retail ebook pricing

If you go to the Harper Collins website, it claims the prices the prices should be:

Thief, The $4.99
Queen of Attolia, The $4.99
King of Attolia, The $5.99
Conspiracy of Kings, A $12.99

Amazon and B&N:
Thief, The $5.99
Queen of Attolia, The $5.99
King of Attolia, The $6.99
Conspiracy of Kings, A $9.99

Sony:
Thief, The $6.29
Queen of Attolia, The $6.29
King of Attolia, The $7.34
Conspiracy of Kings, A $10.49

So, Harper Collins is telling the consumer one price, telling Amazon and B&N a somewhat higher price, and Sony and Books on Board even higher prices. I noticed this also with the Lemony Snicket books. Clearly Harper Collins doesn't have its act together, which is only another reason to believe that this Agent Pricing Model was poorly thought out, and even more poorly implemented.

I don't think HarperCollins has any clue. The Light Fantastic is listed for $15.19 after 20% off.

This agency pricing has made more of a mess then anything ever has.

Another example of HarperCollins' makes-no-sense pricing is that of the latest title in Bernard Cornwell's Saxon series, The Burning Land:

Books on Board: $5.99

Amazon: $12.99

I don't get it.

That's really odd - so books 1 and 3 are much more expensive at BoB than what Harper Collins say is the list price, but book 2 is the "right" price and book 4 is $3 cheaper than the Harper Collins website says. But BoB says all of those books have had the prices set by the publisher.

So there might be good deals to be got on some books going forward through publishers just not being able to roll prices out properly.
