Kindle Unlimited Fiction Recommendations
Last week during Prime Day I succumbed to the temptation to get Kindle Unlimited at a discount for 2 years. Let's not debate if KU is worth it or not (or how much you need to read to make it worthwhile); at that price I could not resist.
Finding novels to read seems like a real problem. I start searching and I can't tell the good from the bad. So I'm looking for recommendations in fiction, mystery, suspense, although I also read SF and fantasy stuff. I found one which I started: Stillhouse Lake by Rachel Caine. https://www.amazon.com/Stillhouse-La.../dp/B01MFGX5GI I initially resisted this but it's good so far. |

I suspect you will find you start far more books than you finish! But I think KU is great for new and independent authors.
recently reviewed "The Day After Never" series book 1 by Russell Blake. Which I enjoyed very much. https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=287234 You might like "The Golden Horde" Series by Peter Morwood. It mixes Russian history with magic. An unusual book series. I haven't reviewed it yet. I've been very impressed with "The Moondark saga" by Don McQuinn, I reviewed it here: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=279651 |

Patricia Wentworth was one of the golden age authors whose work is often on KU. I haven't found a had one yet if that genre suits you. Mystery, crime, on the cosy side.

For the most part these had accompanying audiobooks, so I listened rather than read. They are on a par with Lifetime movies--entertaining and fun, decently crafted, but not top-tier suspense. I did not like books I sampled by Sharon Potts, Maggie James, or K. L. Slater. |

Thanks guys! I will check out those novels. LOL, Lifetime TV movie is a good description for some of them.
Some other things are mystifying. For example ebooks with audio narration. This link shows you KU books with narration. https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=lp_9069...&tag=eflyus-20 On some of these titles, clicking on them you will find "Read and Listen for free" and you will get the title on your Audible app. On others, such as Markus Sakey's Afterlife, it just says "Read for free" and the audiobook costs you $1.99. https://www.amazon.com/AFTERLIFE-Mar...n%3A6577679011 Is there a way to search and just find the "Read and Listen for free" titles? |

Kindle Unlimited used to have some really bad titles way back when it started, and it's still hit or miss sometimes, but I've come across some pretty good reads (in the "popcorn movie" vein, for the most part). Some that I liked (with the first book linked below):
Infiltration Game: A Think Tank Novel. Espionage/Thriller type book (think black ops team) https://www.amazon.com/Infiltration-...sap_bc?ie=UTF8 Tier One series - same author as above. Two books out, one coming in December. This are same type of books, but I liked these a lot better than Think Tank one. https://www.amazon.com/Tier-One-Thri...sap_bc?ie=UTF8 Black Fleet Trilogy - Military SciFi. Pretty good read. https://www.amazon.com/Warship-Black...trilogy+book+1 Onset series - Urban fantasy, sort of. About a team that fights against supernatural beings. Something kind of like the TV show Grimm. https://www.amazon.com/ONSET-Serve-P...+glynn+stewart Bobiverse series - SF. Kind of an odd one. About a guy that wakes up after "dying" and finds himself as an AI for a ship. Fun series, but some people get annoyed by the character, he's kind of an ass sometimes. But I like the series. https://www.amazon.com/Are-Legion-Bo...ords=bobiverse Beneath a Scarlet Sky - this is an AMAZING book. WWII Historical novel based on a true story. I think this is coming out as a movie soon. https://www.amazon.com/Beneath-Scarl...+a+scarlet+sky Blood Defense - Legal thriller series. Not bad. https://www.amazon.com/Blood-Defense...y+marcia+clark The Neon Lawyer series - another Legal thriller series. Also not bad. https://www.amazon.com/Neon-Lawyer-V...he+neon+lawyer Jack Daniels series - Serial Killer/Detective series. Very good. https://www.amazon.com/Whiskey-Sour-...+series+kindle |
