Remember Why You Play, by David Thomas, is free courtesy of Christian publisher Tyndale House Publishers.

Book Description
If you enjoyed Friday Night Lights, this book is a must-read. Remember Why You Play documents the lives, struggles, and triumphs of the players and coaches of Faith Christian School in Grapevine, Texas.

Sports columnist and author David Thomas followed the team for a full season, recording a story that will inspire readers to understand that relationships are more important than winning.

One of the key events was a game that Faith Christian played against the Gainesville State Tornadoes, a school for convicted juvenile offenders. The story of this spectacular game is being made into a movie, titled One Heart, with an anticipated release in November 2010. Reminiscent of Hoosiers and Remember the Titans, this true story makes a strong statement about the impact of compassion and sportsmanship.

Fortune is a Woman [Keeping Mr. Right], by Francine Saint Marie, is the second free title in the Kindle store for this indie author (the first is Dear Joan, a short story). I do wonder, though, since this book's title notes that it is "Optimized & Ad-Free", does the author have a version full of ads (and perhaps, not optimized for whatever platform it is on) out there? Also, this is the middle book of a trilogy, following The Secret Keeping ($3.09) and is classified as both LGBT and Romance.

Book Description
[Sequel to "The Secret Keeping" and book two of Saint Marie's THE SECRET TRILOGY, available in both paperback and Kindle on Amazon.com.]

Dr. Helaine Kristenson is not just talented and beautiful. She's the leading authority in the field of psychosexual relations and the bestselling author of the self-help bible 'Keeping Mr. Right'. Professionally, the esteemed doctor deals with secrets of the heart everyday. Privately, she even has a few of her own to keep her busy...

THIS BOOK CONTAINS: single people; married people; crossdressers; newlyweds; graphic descriptions of underwear, coffee and the weather; unbridled passion; bridled passion; compassion; love; unrequited love; requited love; marital love; threesomes; twosomes; onesomes; nice clothes and good prose; forced rhyme; hangovers and horoscopes; allegories, alliteration and airplanes; outright innuendo and powerful suggestions, unbridled phone sex; hot chocolate; a hot bath; a cool spanking; expensive ties; expensive handpainted ties; expensive ties and tailored suits and the woman who wears them; expensive champagne; expensive champagnes and the women who wear them; finger food; onesomes and finger food; onesomes and phone sex; fleeting nudity and pricks of ennui; graphic depictions of marital bliss; graphic portrayals of celibacy; cads and rogues; brief moments of clarity; briefs; briefcases; brevity; levity...

Sandman Slim with Bonus Content Richard Kadrey (Pre-order)

Quote:
Product Description

Supernatural fantasy has a new antihero

Life sucks, and then you die. Or, if you're James Stark, you spend eleven years in Hell as a hitman before finally escaping, only to land back in the hell-on-earth that is Los Angeles.

Now Stark's back, and ready for revenge. And absolution, and maybe even love. But when his first stop saddles him with an abusive talking head, Stark discovers that the road to absolution and revenge is much longer than you'd expect, and both Heaven and Hell have their own ideas for his future.

Resurrection sucks. Saving the world is worse.

Darkly twisted, irreverent, and completely hilarious, Sandman Slim is the breakthrough novel by an acclaimed author.

Free historical romances:

To Conquer a Highlander by Mary Wine

Quote:
A fierce Highland laird ready to kill for king and country

When Torin McLeren discovers his neighbor's plot against his king, he takes their daughter as his prisoner, thereby stopping her father's plot from going forward. But that leaves him with a woman under his roof whom he can't ignore, and not just because she's his enemy's daughter

A woman who's as much trouble as she is temptation

Shannon McBoyd decides to use her captor to experience passion for the first time, and then to destroy him. But her plan goes awry because once she has lured Torin into her bed, she no longer wants to hurt the one man who seems to value and understand her

Even if her father will kill him -and her- when he discovers what they've done...
Mr. & Mrs. Fitzwilliam Darcy: Two Shall Become One by Sharon Lathan

Quote:
Sharon Lathan presents Mr. & Mrs. Fitzwilliam Darcy, A fascinating portrait of a timeless, consuming love - and the sweetest, most romantic Jane Austen sequel.

It's Darcy and Elizabeth's wedding day, and the journey is just beginning as Jane Austen's beloved Pride and Prejudice characters embark on the greatest adventure of all: marriage and a life together filled with surprising passion, tender self-discovery, and the simple joys of every day. As their love story unfolds in this most romantic of Jane Austen sequels, Darcy and Elizabeth reveal to each other how their relationship blossomed. From misunderstanding to perfect understanding and harmony, theirs is a marriage filled with romance, sensuality, and the beauty of a deep, abiding love.

Mr. Darcy's Diary by Amanda Grange

Quote:
Monday 9th September "I left London today and met Bingley at Netherfield Park. I had forgotten what good company he is; always ready to be pleased and always cheerful. After my difficult summer, it is good to be with him again. ..."

The only place Darcy could share his innermost feelings was in the private pages of his diary... Torn between his sense of duty to his family name and his growing passion for Elizabeth Bennet, all he can do is struggle not to fall in love. Mr. Darcy's Diary presents the story of the unlikely courtship of Elizabeth Bennet and Fitzwilliam Darcy from Darcy's point of view. This graceful imagining and sequel to Pride and Prejudice explains Darcy's moodiness and the difficulties of his reluctant relationship as he struggles to avoid falling in love with Miss Bennet. Though seemingly stiff and stubborn at times, Darcy's words prove him also to be quite devoted and endearing - qualities that eventually win over Miss Bennet's heart. This continuation of a classic romantic novel is charming and elegant, much like Darcy himself.Pride and Prejudice has inspired a large number of modern day sequels, the most successful of which focus on the rich, proud Mr. Darcy.

Cure for the Chronic Life, by Shane Stanford & Deanna T Favre, is free courtesy of Christian publisher Abingdon Press.

Book Description
What could an HIV-positive minister and the wife of one of the NFL s greatest players have in common? Deanna Favre and Shane Stanford both have lived through difficult life situations and illnesses, and both have overcome the propensity for chronic hopelessness to discover the transforming grace and strength of God. While Deanna and Shane are survivors of chronic illness, they are also survivors of the types of chronic life situations we have all experienced that oftentimes come to define our perspectives of self, others, and God, and which can lead us to feel that our life is in a crisis. Deanna and Shane believe that the answers to our common, most-enduring questions are found within our relationship with God, especially as these questions are shared, expressed, and lived out in faithfulness with each other. God, through Scripture, provides the answers in four primary categories: Compassion, Understanding, Response, and Encouragement. And the answers show how God s CURE can change every aspect of our lives forever, by unveiling the seven wonders of living in Christ. The book concludes with a 40-day spiritual treatment plan that can be used as a devotional guide and provides practical, daily life lessons and scriptural wisdom. This plan shows readers how God wants a new, healthy, and complete life for us. The CURE for the Chronic Life is more than another devotional or self-help book. It is about story the stories of Deanna and Shane , the stories of those whom they love and who have made a difference in their lives. It is also about your story, and, most important, the story of God and God s love for us. And in a beautiful way, all of these stories are amazingly knitted together in the same fabric.

Blue Boy by Rakesh Satya

Quote:
Meet Kiran Sharma: lover of music, dance, and all things sensual; son of immigrants, social outcast, spiritual seeker. A boy who doesn't quite understand his lot—until he realizes he's a god...

As an only son, Kiran has obligations—to excel in his studies, to honor the deities, to find a nice Indian girl, and, above all, to make his mother and father proud—standard stuff for a boy of his background. If only Kiran had anything in common with the other Indian kids besides the color of his skin. They reject him at every turn, and his cretinous public schoolmates are no better. Cincinnati in the early 1990s isn’t exactly a hotbed of cultural diversity, and Kiran’s not-so-well-kept secrets don’t endear him to any group. Playing with dolls, choosing ballet over basketball, taking the annual talent show way too seriously. . .the very things that make Kiran who he is also make him the star of his own personal freak show. . .

Surrounded by examples of upstanding Indian Americans—in his own home, in his temple, at the weekly parties given by his parents’ friends—Kiran nevertheless finds it impossible to get the knack of “normalcy.” And then one fateful day, a revelation: perhaps his desires aren’t too earthly, but too divine. Perhaps the solution to the mystery of his existence has been before him since birth. For Kiran Sharma, a long, strange trip is about to begin—a journey so sublime, so ridiculous, so painfully beautiful, that it can only lead to the truth. . .

Kell's Legend: The Clockwork Vampire Chronicles, Book 1 by Andy Remic

Quote:
Ferocious fantasy from a real-life hardman come to claim the post-Gemmell world.

THEY CAME FROM THE NORTH AND THE CITY FELL.

It is a time for warriors, a time for heroes. Kell's axe howls out for blood. The land of Falanor has been invaded by an albino army, the Army of Iron. A small group set off to warn the king: Kell, a magnificent and brutal hero; his granddaughter, Nienna and her friend, Katrina; and Saark, the ex-Sword Champion of King Leanoric, disgraced after his affair with the Queen.

Fighting their way south, betrayal follows battle, battle follows deviation, and they are attacked from all quarters by deadly warriors, monstrous harvesters who drain blood from their victims to feed their masters. As Falanor comes under heavy attack and invasion, only then does Nienna begin to learn the truth about grandfather Kell -- that he is anything but a hero. Ferocious fantasy from a real-life hardman come to claim the post-Gemmell world.
Sister of the Bride by Susan Mallery

Quote:
When Katie McCormick finds out that her sister is marrying her ex, she finally agrees to a setup for the big day. To her surprise, Jackson is a catch. But when wedding catastrophe ensues, will their sparks fizzle or ignite into flames?
Shadow Bound by Erin Kellison

Quote:
When a demon breaches the barrier between death and life, the salvation of the world depends on the passions of a beautiful banshee just coming into her power and the man willing to use her to avenge the destruction of his family.
CEB New Testament (Common English Bible)

The result is a new version that the typical reader or worshipper is able to understand. 115 leading biblical scholars from 22 faith traditions and 77 reading specialists in 13 denominations worked on this translation.

Sin's Daughter by Eve Silver

Quote:
Cursed with immortality, driven into a nomadic life on the fringes of society to escape those who hunt her, Amber Hale has learned the bitter lesson that she can never grow close to anyone. Never love.

Only once did she break her own rules. And her lover, Kai Warin, paid for her mistake with his life. For decades, she's been numb with grief. Now, confronted by a soul reaper--an agent of one of the most powerful of the Underworld deities--with Kai's face, she must acknowledge the likelihood that he betrayed her...to the Lord of Evil himself.

Forced into an uneasy alliance and plagued by the unwanted yearning between them, they must work together to elude the dark forces hunting them both...

What Wives Wish their Husbands Knew about Sex: A Guide for Christian Men by Ryan Howes, Richard Rupp, Stephen W. Simpson

Quote:
It's an unfortunate reality that many men grow up in churches that suppress their God-given sexual urges. As a result, many Christian men, single and married, are frustrated with their love lives and their sex lives. The authors of this book claim that Christian men should be the greatest lovers in the world and then work to show men how to do it. They help men: -learn what the Bible says about a healthy sex life -discover how to relate to women as men instead of as boys -address psychological and spiritual issues that interfere with healthy sexuality -learn specific techniques that create a strong relationship, great foreplay, and passionate sex Solidly based in Scripture and informed by the experiences of the authors, all respected sex therapists, What Wives Wish Their Husbands Knew about Sex dispels the myths that keep good Christian men from experiencing sex as God meant it to be. Perfect for any man, it is also a great book for counselors and pastors who work with men.
Tahn: A Novel by L.A. Kelly

Quote:
In a dark, medieval land, good and evil battle it out. Trapped between his master's evil commands and his persistent conscience that tells him to do otherwise, Tahn Dorn finds himself in a twisting plot that threatens not only his life but also that of the lovely Netta. After kidnapping Netta from the comfort of her home and burning her castle to the ground, Tahn realizes he can't turn her over to Samis, his evil master, as was originally intended. But as Tahn launches a plan to outwit Samis, he realizes he must also face the evils within himself.

Here, compelling characters deal with the real-life struggles of redemption and forgiveness. It's good versus evil in a way you've never experienced before.
Relentless by Robin Parrish

Quote:
Grant Borrows' life has just taken a drastic left turn. There's another man in the world wearing his face and living his life. What's more, the man he sees in the mirror is a stranger.

Somehow, he's been Shifted -- his whole life fundamentally altered, in the space of a single breath. But the changes don't stop at skin-level. Inexplicably, he's able to affect objects around him by simply thinking about them. And as he soon learns, he's become the central figure in a vast web of intrigue that stretches from an underground global conspiracy to a prophecy dating back over seven thousand years, that tells of his coming. Enemies and allies find him at every turn, but one thing they all learn very quickly is that you don't want to push Grant Borrows too far...

Can destiny be undone? The players are ready. The game is in motion. And the pace is Relentless.

In the allegorical tradition of Tolkien and Lewis comes a powerful new myth for a new generation.
By Grace Alone: How the Grace of God Amazes Me by Sinclair B. Ferguson

Quote:
Are you truly amazed by God's grace? Or have you grown accustomed to it? Yes, we sing of God's "Amazing Grace," but do you truly understand what you as a Christian have experienced in receiving the grace of God? Or do you take divine grace for granted?

In By Grace Alone: How the Grace of God Amazes Me, Dr. Sinclair B. Ferguson laments that "we have lost the joy and energy that is experienced when grace seems truly ‘amazing.'" In an effort to restore the wonder of divine grace, he reflects on it from seven angles, each built around a stanza from a rich but little-known hymn, "O How the Grace of God Amazes Me," written by Emmanuel T. Sibomana, a pastor in the African nation of Burundi. (Download the sheet music and MP3 file for free from ligonier.org.)

This book poses probing questions for today's believer: "If I am not amazed by God's grace, can I really be living in it? Can I really be tasting, and savoring, and delighting in it?" But those willing to delve into God's Word with Dr. Ferguson will come away with a deeper astonishment at the depths of God's grace.
The Power of a Whisper: Hearing God, Having the Guts to Respond by Bill Hybels

Quote:
'Without a hint of exaggeration,' says pastor and author Bill Hybels in The Power of a Whisper: Hearing God, Having the Guts to Respond Ebook, 'the ability to discern divine direction has saved me from a life of sure boredom and self-destruction. God's well-timed words have redirected my path, rescued me from temptation and re-energized me during some of my deepest moments of despair.' In The Power of a Whisper, vision is cast for what life can look like when God's followers choose to hear from heaven as they navigate life on earth. Whispers that arbitrate key decisions, nudges that rescue from dark nights of the soul, promptings that spur on growth, urgings that come by way of another person, inspiration that opens once-glazed-over eyes to the terrible plight people face in this world---through firsthand accounts spanning fifty-seven years of life, more than thirty of which have been spent in the trenches of ministry, Hybels promotes passion in Christ-followers' hearts for being wide open to hearing from God, and for getting gutsier about doing exactly what he says to do. Alfred Sloan's Way by New Word City

Quote:
He invented corporate management, discovered modern marketing, and led General Motors to industrial dominance for half a century. But Alfred Sloan portrayed himself as a one-dimensional workaholic. Don't take him at his word but learn from his example. Specifically, he questioned conventional wisdom, made his company his first duty, understood that integrity and character matter more than charisma and showmanship, and welcomed disagreement.

He was an undisputed titan of industry. He outsmarted the legendary Henry Ford, invented the modern system of marketing, created the very concept of corporate management, and built General Motors into the world's most successful industrial enterprise. Sloan was an intensely private man whose deep friendships, flashes of wit, personal generosity, and vast public philanthropy all invite closer inspection—and then defy it. If there are no full-scale biographies of him, that's the way he wanted it: He burned most of his personal papers, and after he died GM destroyed most of what remained. Childless, formal, and reserved, he had no time for parties, culture, sports, or literature. He was "Mr. Sloan" even to close friends. But fleeting glints of a more human man keep breaking through the gray flannel—and if GM had kept following Sloan's real principles, it might not have gone bankrupt. Let's see what we can learn from his story.
