I think the issue/change is that the 'size' is now specified, not just laptops/computers but anything larger than a cell phone....and that each must be placed in a separate bin for xray scanning...and this is TSA in the U.S.A. airports. It does say they are already in effect at 10 airports, but now I guess it is expanding to others....
"Under the new rules, travelers will be asked to remove electronic devices larger than a cellphone from their bags and place them in separate bins for screening. TSA officials said the goal is to give officers clearer X-ray images." Last edited by kennyc; 07-27-2017 at 01:32 PM. |

As I say, it's been like that for Kindles, iPads, etc, for a couple of years at British (and other European) airports. Electronic stuff goes in a separate tray through the scanner.

Yes, I understand that. Just saying that they're doing the same as has been done elsewhere for a while.

So given that there are cell phones with a screen size at 7", you're 6" Reader should stay in your bad as it's not larger than a cell phone. The Samsun Galaxy W has a 7" screen. It's a larger screen than my H2O at 6.8".

When I fly, a tray only goes to phone, tablet, ereader and camera, here in Spain

Last time we flew, we got TSA Pre-Check and no electronics had to come out of our bags.

I flew back in May, only had to take my netbook out of my bag. Not the ereader or the camera or the cell phone.
I'm flying again next week so I'm curious to see if anything will change. Probably not at my little airport but I'll be flying back from Salt Lake City, I bet they'll have tighter security. |
