You're right right about no ebooks. The sale is on select paperback books only until June 16th. Here's a link to the sale info. Happy Reading! Joan

Free Today on Amazon UK - Running Blind / The Freedom Trap by Desmond Bagley
'Double action thrillers by the classic adventure writer about a notorious Russian double agent, Slade, set in Iceland and Malta.

RUNNING BLIND

The assignment begins with a simple errand - a parcel to deliver. But to Alan Stewart, standing on a deserted road in Iceland with a murdered man at his feet, it looks anything but simple. The desolate terrain is obstacle enough. But when Stewart realises he has been double-crossed and that the opposition is gaining ground, his simple mission seems impossible…

THE FREEDOM TRAP

The Scarperers, a brilliantly organised gang which gets long-term inmates out of prison, spring a notorious Russian double agent. The trail leads Owen Stannard to Malta, and to the suave killer masterminding the gang. Face to face at last with his opponents, Stannard must try to outwit both men - who have nothing to lose and everything to gain by his death…

Includes a unique bonus - A Matter of Months, a previously unpublished short story about a murder in a casino.'

UK only

IMO this was not a promotional link - it was to a MobileRead thread, did not contain an affiliate tag, I clearly stated "IF you don't mind" and I have no affiliation with the person whose thread I referenced, other than feeling bad if by referencing a particularly good deal here in the "speciality" thread, I took some "business" away from someone else who also posts these deals. Oh yeah, and I also posted the "clean" link first, so there would be no confusion. I don't want to NOT post in the "specialty" thread, nor do I want to disadvantage the other person by posting deals they also post - how do you suggest the cross-reference be done?

It's a minefield. In order for me to post, I have to go to the trouble to take out my affiliate link and honestly, it's usually not worth the bother for me. I linked to a book review on my blog one time in the romance thread and boy. Won't do that again. I had no idea that since my blog has affiliate links that was a no-no.

I didn't take yours as a promo link either, but it's a very sensitive issue around here (apparently).

I think it is unnecessary oversensitivity. So a link has an affiliate tag, so what? Who exactly is being harmed?

Ratcatcher by James McGee [HarperCollins] is 99p at Kobo and Amazon UK.

http://store.kobobooks.com/en-gb/Sea...ry=james+mcgee

Quote:

Regency London is vividly brought to life in this extraordinary page-turner, the first in a series of historical thrillers featuring Bow Street Runner Matthew Hawkwood – a dangerous, sexy and fascinating hero. Hunting down highwaymen was not the usual preserve of a Bow Street Runner. As the most resourceful of this elite band of investigators, Matthew Hawkwood was surprised to be assigned the case – even if it did involve the murder and mutilation of a naval courier. From the squalor of St Giles Rookery, London's notorious den of theives and cutthroats, to the palatial homes of the aristocracy where knights of the realm conduct themselves in a manner unbecoming to their rank, Hawkwood relentlessly pursues his quarry. And as the case unfolds, and another body is discovered, the true agenda behind the robbery begins to emerge: the stolen naval dispatch pouch held details of a French plot that, if successful, will send the Royal Navy's entire fleet scurrying to port in terror, leaving Napoleon to rule the waves. With no way of knowing who can be trusted, Hawkwood must engage in a desperate race against time to prevent the successful execution of the Emperor's plot.

It's against the rules. Apparently some people view them as ads and/or don't want to give any part of their purchase to someone who is an affiliate. So it hasn't been allowed for a long time. I try to mention books I really love and/or the big sales, but some of the auto-generated links are hard to parse to get the associate link out or I get lazy and just don't bother. Me, lazy. Who would have guessed???

I do know about the rule; I recall when the issue came up and the rule was instituted. I thought it was dumb then, and still do.

I rarely bother to post links either, because heaven forbid I should leave in someone's affiliate link. Oh, the horror!

Who exactly benefits from the absence of an affiliate link? Amazon and BN and whoever else doesn't have to pay the affiliate. Gee, I'm glad the rule here is helping them increase their profit.
