I was able to pick up a few of the old, turn-of-the-[last!]-century Tom Swift titles and was amused by some of the titles. Anyway [he ejaculated], I'm outta here! Don |

I collect turn of the 20th century children's books, and have a complete set of the original "Tom Swift" books. They are among my favourites, although naturally they do reflect the cultural norms of the time, which can come across as offensive today. Eg, one of the regular characters in the books is a black man who speaks like a caricature, calling Tom "Massa Tom", and so on.

Yes, the first.. An author friend of mine wrote one or more of the more recent releases in that on-going series.

Have you ever read a book where you keep reading and reading and reading but you feel like you're not getting anywhere?? That's what reading The First Confessor is like! I mean, it's not bad, it just feels like it's never going to end! It's LONG. LOL

My favorite books when I was a kid were the Mushroom Planet books. I wish they were out on e-book. I'd love for my kids to read them.

Some writers just don't know how to tell a story. (or they are intentionally stretching/padding what should be a much shorter, better story) |

Next: Tiger by the Tail by John Ringo. I've found this completely over the top series enjoyable. I look forward to whatever fantasy he's concocted now for "The Kildar". If you've not come across this series before, I recommend the review here: Oh, John Ringo, No! |

Tiger by the Tail was a good read. They are over the top but, sometimes I just like to read over the top books.
It is definitely one of those books you wish the next one was out so you would not have to wait. Apache |
