I wasn't really trying to solve the mystery, the idea just sort of popped in my head.

This thread needs to be bookmarked! (Already did, haha.) I think the one book that really got me to enjoy the plot twists would be Gone Girl (and the movie / direction was amazing also, and lived up to my expectations).

I Am Not A Serial Killer (John Cleaver #1) by Dan Wells GR Link
The "twist" happens around page 100. Depending on what kind of reader you are you will either hurl the book across the room or go bonkers and read the rest of the book that day. I personally loved it. Synopsis here Spoiler:

I just recommended Megan Whalen Turner's "The Thief" in another thread, but it fits here too. http://meganwhalenturner.org/NovelsThief.html
Another one is Sarah Rees Brennan's "Demon's Lexicon". (I was about to link to the author page for the book, but there's a spoiler in the description of a later book in the series. The Goodreads page for it is spoilerish too, so be wary if you go looking for it. This description is spoiler free, though: http://whatever.scalzi.com/2009/06/2...-rees-brennan/ Both these are first in series, but can stand on their own. For both, there are twists in the later books in the series, too. They are really, really good, with twists that made me want to reread immediately, to pick up hints and foreshadowings. |

I'm going to throw in the mystery "Murder at Mt. Fuji" by Shizuko Natsuki. It starts out with a disappointingly obvious murder, but it gets curiouser and curiouser as the plot unfolds. Twists right to the end.
Hmm, no English ebook version available. Last edited by rkomar; 02-01-2015 at 05:47 PM. |

@hildea: Megan Whalen Turner's "The Thief" is one of my all time favorites. I had a slight prediction at the start of the book wherein I had an idea of the possible twist, but Magen Whalen Turner's righting is so good she still had me grasp more for the details and still had me surprised at the reveal on the latter part.
