For fun at 915 this morning,
I checked the temperature in 4 locations. Corpus Christi Tx 29 felt like 17. Panama City Florida 31 felt like 22. Porter Tx 22 felt like 12. All three had freeze or hard freeze warnings and wind chill advisories. Then I looked at Odessa Texas. 29 felt like 22. No warnings or watches or any alerts. Note the first three are on the Gulf Coast. The 4th one is in the desert. |

It started as freezing rain up here, then we got 3 inches of heavy, wet snow -- the kind that builds up in tree branches and brings some down. We only lost some small ones out in the woods. The storm hit here about 12 hours later than the original forecast and messed up the morning commute, but the roads were good by noon.
We should have sun on Thursday, but still cold. Then, over the weekend, things should warm up a bit. |

It's stormy. The peak will be between 9am (ten minutes from now) and 2pm. So far there haven't been many problems besides one truck that has been blown over. Yesterday the National Rail service already announced the train service would be adapted and there would be less trains. Airline KLM also announced it was cancelling a lot of shorter flights.
At least so far there has been less rain than predicted. |

10-12" of heavy wet snow that froze solid last night -- It was 15 F at 7 am.
We (and the entire state of NC) are waiting for the sun to come out and start melting this stuff. I had broomed off steps & car yesterday when it was still powdery, but today it is like a rock. |

Whilst out shoveling/brooming off the cars, I was temporarily engulfed in a 'white out'! The sun is out, and tree branches are shedding their powder snow from yesterday. Several trees dropped powder together and produced a mini-blizzard ...

Our heavy wet snow froze solid, too. Some spots got enough sun to expose the driveway pavement, but the runoff is black ice, now.
We're supposed to get full sun on Friday and it's supposed to be in the low 40s, so I should be able to shovel off some ice blocks in the afternoon. |

What meteorological phenomenon (phenomena) affects you this day ?
The snow we got Wednesday — I estimate about 2" — was already nearly cleared by last night. Doesn't look as if the wife will get another holiday today. It's quite chilly, though; currently 25° F, but today's high should be near 50.

Yesterday's sun partially cleared the trees and driveway, but the streets are solid ice yet.
And a foot of solidly frozen snow remains on all surfaces. |

Bright and sunny. Oh and the city finally got around to fixing a water leak that was making two roads hazardous.

Hope the link is ok, but she is just so darn cute! We had 5-6 inches day before yesterday. It was a pretty snow, all the trees just covered. Tomorrow it's suppose to be 60ish*. Guess winter is over. S Last edited by issybird; 01-20-2018 at 09:08 AM. Reason: Fixed link. |
