Dreiser, Theodore: Sister Carrie. v1. 17 July 07

Sister Carrie, by Theodore Dreiser, is a novel that changed the lanscape of American literature forever. It effectively ended the Victorian era due to the realism of Dreiser's writing in taking a hard look at a "fallen woman." I fell in love with this book - and with the thematic concerns that drove Dreiser to write. Dreiser is certainly no prose stylist, his writing often ulgy and clumsy, but the realistic nature of his writings helped to expose the gritty realism at the turn of the last century.

His masterpiece, in my opinion, is "An American Tragedy," which I am working on right now for an upload shortly.

I hope you like Sister Carrie. The novel was published in 1900 and remains constantly in print. A definite classic of American Literature.
