I wasn't aware of any of this, either! Excuse my possible naïveté, but I wonder if this is a problem specific to your area or if this is something commonly found nationwide?

This is a problem for anyone in my situation. No address. Yes, I have a mailing service that receives my mail. They can scan my mail when I request it. That doesn't really help for packages. They'd have to forward them (which they can/will do) but it leaves me back at the same problem.

I dislike Amazon, but if they installed Amazon lockers in the next town over I would buy everything from them.

Unrelated rant: I dislike the US Postal Service (and other delivery services too, actually). They have tracking now on the internet. Fine, but certainly with the USPS there is a lot of delay in updating status. They report status as "Departing USPS Regional Destination Facility", but they never say where they are going. Is this just a road trip and they haven't made their minds up yet? Said USPS RDF is a two hour drive from here and there is nothing between it and me. My package "departed" (destination unknown) at 1:30 AM Wednesday morning. So, where is it and what's it doing? The bottom line is that the initial estimate was "delivery by Friday at 9 PM" and they will do anything to ensure that, including detaching the trailer and leaving it by the side of the highway for two days.

@Renate: I can sympathize with the "No address" issue. Last year, I needed to move quickly from my abode in Maine and ended up living for several months in an apartment in the back of a church in the small town of Stratton, ME, near the Sugarloaf ski area. The problem I ran into was that, since no one had actually lived there before (though some had stayed there for personal retreats and the like), the location had no official USPS address! I could get a PO box at the local P.O., but this became a major problem for stuff like car insurance, internet service, or any physical deliveries. Some companies would deliver, some would not. Internet service? Nope. They couldn't find the address in their database. Car insurance? I only convinced them with photos of me, my car, and my location. I asked the local PO postmaster about it, but it was not a priority for them. Now I really appreciate living in a place with an official USPS address again!!

Back to our regularly scheduled topic: my Nook GL 4 is still due here tomorrow. It's in Louisville, KY now, according to UPS (pronounced Oops by some customers...). I am hopeful that I really will see it tomorrow...

Well, this is bizarre! An hour ago, I saw that my shipment was in my area and loaded on a delivery vehicle. Then, I had an email from B&N telling me that my shipment is coming tomorrow and is in a different state!

I finally figured it out. B&N sent my GL4 and cover in separate shipments from the same place. Each took a different route, oddly enough. The GL4 is in this area, and the cover is in NJ.

Maybe I should wait and see what actually comes today - if anything!

I think that we're in quantum reality.
B&N sent me an email this morning saying the I'd get my Glow tomorrow.
I checked the USPS tracking. Yesterday (Wednesday) it said that it departed the RDF at 1:30 AM. Now the tracking history says that it arrived at 1:30 AM. It says that it departed the RDF early this morning. Unfortunately I don't have a screenshot from yesterday as proof. OTOH, the cover is following the same track and will arrive Monday. I'll try to capture this discrepancy if it repeats.

Our delivery stories are beginning to sound like a Twilight Zone episode!

They also remind me of this - if you're a fan of said show...

It's just simple physics...

I had to go to town this morning. I came back and now they say it's out for delivery. Ok, I'll take a post-prandial nap and head into town again.

Edit: MST3K rocks!

Mine just arrived! I may not go quite so far in unboxing mine, but I'll be most curious about whatever you learn from your full unboxing!

Edit: I can't run mine yet. When I turned it on, a message came up that it was too cold but that I could try again in a few minutes. It's 28 degrees outside... but not inside! : )

Edit #2: On, and already downloading an update!

First impressions:

The GL 4 looks a lot like the GL 3 of a few years back, with a few subtle differences. I had gotten used to tapping the screen to turn pages, but I like the buttons! The warm/cold light seems easy to adjust.

This device is light and easy to hold. Text looks good.

For all you rooters out there, there's no obvious way to activate developer settings as there was with the GL 3. I've tapped everything tappable! In fact, if you start tapping "App Version" repeatedly, a window pops up asking you if you want to do a full sync of your Nook!

I like the fact that there's a USB-C port. That helps me streamline my cord collection!

I'm liking this device thus far.

Edit: Is B&N up to their old tricks of partitioning free space? When I connected the GL4 to my Mac, it came up as a Nook drive with 5.36 GB of storage... Not liking this...

Tap build number.
I don't see an UMS 5.63 or whatever.

No build number. If you tap "app version", the Nook will ask you after a few taps if you really want to do a full sync. I tried tapping everything else in that screen. No luck!

This is odd. Under "manage storage", I see that I have over 28GB available. Why would my Mac list it as 5GB, I wonder?

Edit: B&N, you magnificent bastard! I read your book! I found it!! You have to tap the Nook logo directly over the "Check for system update" button under "About". Yes!

Edit #2: adb devices works as expected.

Oh, maybe they cut that out of their settings. Can you get to the stock settings?

Hmm, it doesn't seem to respect "full screen" (i.e. no status bar) from an app.
