Gentleman set for Amazon Kindle Paperwhite

To configure and install everything you need to your favorite reader Amazon Kindle Paperwhite, it is necessary to spend a lot of time. I am writing this article to save your time and simplify the process of setting of the reader. More interesting things were also added to standard ones you can do with your favorite reader, having searched in the Internet... I have included the additional settings and edit the code a bit. As a result, there are modified applications, games, launcher and menus in my assembly now. In addition to the launcher icon designed to launch an alternative menu, there is nothing extraneous in the main page.

The assembly includes:
- Jailbreak reader of Kindle Paperwhite;
- Russification of the keyboard;
- KUAL – launcher kindle;
- Alternative menu;
- Dictionaries for translation of a text in books from and to English;
- Reader: KOReader and Cool Reader;
- Browsers: SkipStone and Midori;
- Other applications: notebook, notice board, reminder, pictures viewer, drawing tool, calculator and file manager;
- Games: Checkers, Chess, Sudoku, Sokoban, Reversi, Gomoku, takuzu;
- Task Manager;
- A quick call WiFi on/off, the screen backlight on/off, night screensaver on/off, display battery% on/off, calendar and information about the device.

All actions with his book text you do at your own risk. I do not carry any responsibility for the consequences of these actions. Does not frighten you? Then get started ...

In view of the designation of common actions:
[Step 1] - disconnect the device from the computer -> click on the menu (the button in the upper right corner in the form of three horizontal lines) -> select “Settings” in the drop-down list -> again click on the menu (the button in the upper right corner in the form of three horizontal lines) -> select “Update Your Kindle” in the drop-down list

Jailbreak

Jailbreak should be performed prior to installation of the 5.4.5 firmware. Unpack the archive “install_eng”.

1) Connect the device to USB;
2) Extract the files to the root of the device from the archive “kindle-5.4-jailbreak.zip”, which was previously unpacked as “install_eng”;
3) Execute [Step 1] and see:

4) Pass all check-in points and connect the device to USB;
5) Copy the file “Update_mkk-20140822-k5-ALL_install.bin” from the archive “install_eng” to the root of the book;
6) Execute [Step 1];

Russification of the keyboard

1) Identify the version of the device: click on the menu (the button in the upper right corner in the form of three horizontal lines) -> select “Settings” in the drop-down list -> again click on the menu (the button in the upper right corner in the form of three horizontal lines) -> select “Device Info” in the drop-down list;
2) Connect the device to USB;
3) Copy the file from the archive “install_eng”, “update_kbd_ru_1.0_k5x_install.bin” (5.4.x firmware) or “update_kbd_ru_0.9_k5x_install.bin” (5.3.x firmware) to the root of the device; 4) Execute [Step 1];

Now you can update your device. If during upgrading the device, Jailbreak will fly off, you should reinstall it.

Setting the alternative menu and applications

1) Connect the device to USB;
2) Copy the contents of the archive “kindle_eng” in the root of the disk of the reader with the replacement of files, folders, and reboot the device;
3) Next, you need to consistently click on those highlighted in red in the screenshots:

Run the “Kindle launcher” from the main program window.

Choose “Kindle Menu” from a list of buttons.

Launch an alternative menu on the side with finger from the top of the screen to the center.

If you search here a bit, you can find this collection of packages posted earlier for the PW1 also.
(Which is why the text still refers to the "paperwhite" rather than the "PW2" in places.)

This is a collection of Mobileread packages, but a useful thing to do, since it saves people weeks of searching to find all of these.
