Normalising the library

I have some books from the same publisher, yet, over the years they have changed the way they tag themselves - long name, short name, medium name. Is there a way to make this one publisher and choose just one name and retag the affected entries?

Also, the same publisher is inconsistent with the authors. Sometimes it can be "Hugo" or "Victor Hugo" or "HUGO". Is there a way to make calibre normalise that and just put Victor Hugo in each of the three instances?

Also, the usercontributed tags from online registries (like amazon or google) can be usefull, but also they can be a nuisance. Is there a way to remove all the instances of a certain tag all over the database?

Use Tag Browser, select Publishers, right click and select Manage Publishers. Change the names to the name you want for all.

You can do the same thing, or use Search and Replace in the bulk metadata editor after selecting books to change.

Same method as for publishers - use the Tag Browser and Manage Tags.

In addition to the above advice, you might want to try the find duplicates and quality check plugins.
They are very helpful in pointing out inconsistancies etc.
