Editing Metadata
I am a new member here so I apologize if this has been covered before.
I have title_series_sorting = 'strictly_alphabetic' and save_template_title_series_sorting = 'strictly_alphabetic'. But when I "Edit Metadata Individually", in a list of already imported books, I can't get the "Title Sort" column to place "The" and "A" at the beginning. If I manually change it, it will stay that way, but if I just click the little move arrow at the right side of the "Title" box, Calibre insists on moving the articles to the end with a comma in the title. How can I get Calibre to list the title of books in "Title sort" window the same way they are in the "Title" window? |

This should probably have been posted in the Calibre Forum...
However, if I understand you correctly, you just need to turn off the setting that says but A/The at the end of the title. This can be found in Preferences > ....[dang my screen froze. I have to remember where it is ) ETA: Nevermind me looking, I think this thread addresses what you are trying to do lol https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=174295 Last edited by gabby98; 05-08-2014 at 01:18 PM. |

I, too, have not been able to turn this feature off completely. Actually, I have, but it feels dirty: there must be an easier way to tell Calibre to never mess with the title as entered. What worked for me is another tweak, modifying per_language_title_sort_articles to
... 'eng': ('\\s+',), ... You can probably leave the other language options alone. Make sure to test thoroughly. @gabby98: I'd love it if there were an easier way ... |

I may not be clearly understanding atm (probably cause I kinda have a headache) maybe someone else better understand what you mean. I'll comeback to it when I kick the headache and try again if not already resolved with someone else

for all future additions For Existing Values Select the books: tap 'E' (bulk metadata edit mode):Tick the box (near the bottom)'Update Title Sort': OK spend some time looking this form over, there is a lot of things you can do using this. Too many to even try and document all the possibilities. And for those that can't be done on the 'Basic' tab, there is the Search and Replace tab. Caution:you can make a huge mess...fast. Do a Library backup, just in case |

Follow Up. Today, I reset the "Control title and series sorting in the library view" back to default and then changed it to 'strictly_alphabetic'. It is now working just as I wanted. Go Figure!!
